Dr. Ravichandran's Visit

The 8th grade was instructed by a guest lecturer last week, Dr. Kodi Ravichandran. Dr. Ravichandran is a primary investigator at UVA and his lab's work focuses on understanding how some of our cells sacrifice themselves due to injury and their removal by the immune system. It was a great treat for our students to learn about the application of their course work directly from someone that is creating the experiments that help us understand how life works.

Renaissance Visit

The 8th grade visited Anna Minutella's Synthetic Biology class at The Renaissance School last week in order to insert genes into bacteria to make them express different colored pigments. This entry level genetic engineering experiment is a great experience to help understand how biological research and products are created in today's world. Additionally, our students were given a crash course in entrepreneurship and marketing from Steve Haske and Bethany Farris. These experiences will help the 8th graders as they continue to work on creating their own biotech companies as part of their capstone projects here at Peabody.
