Foraging for Food and Fun
Feb 12 at 6:30pm
Kira Morrissey, a MN native living in WI since 2002, grew up with parents who were lovers of all things outdoors, instilling in her a sense of awe and wonder in plants and wild animals. Kira has become enamored with how the plants in our backyards are often the ones with the most health and healing benefits. She has taken online courses, voraciously read backyard plant medicine books, source-checked articles and websites, and has taken journeys down a plethora of legit and not-so-legit rabbit holes down the herbology route. Kira uses what she learns to turn a walk in the woods into a foraging adventure. Kira discusses easily identified common weeds plentiful in most backyards that can become part of your diet. She’ll address some fun things to do with kids on nature walks to instill a love and respect for plants. She is hoping that the program will ignite a new interest in the tradition of foraging for food and for fun.

Sadly, The Winter Rec Fest planned for Feb. 10 has been canceled due to lack of snow and warm temps.
The Parks and Recreation Department has made the difficult decision to cancel the Winter Rec Fest scheduled for February 10th, 2024.
Although we strive to create an event that is not solely reliant on snow, we cannot hold this sort of event without frost in the ground. Our various events would cause irreparable damage to our Swan Park fields when they are this muddy.
Thanks to everyone for your excitement around this event.
