Over four days, members engaged in high-level discussions, committee meetings, and networking sessions, all aimed at advancing industry initiatives and strengthening collaboration. What's Happening in Advocacy | |

Driving Change: BOMA/GLA’s Latest Advocacy Efforts
To kick off the year BOMA/GLA advocacy saw fantastic engagement with the DTLA Power Hour covering Guidance for Property Managers on Law Enforcement Interactions. With representatives from LA Mayor Karen Bass’s office, SEIU-USWW, and California Business Property Owners (CBPA) represented on the panel, we saw attendance and engagement rise significantly. For a comprehensive overview from legal experts please review this slide deck for more information.
A core group of members are meeting with the Mayor and City Manager of El Segundo next week to discuss changes in the plan check process. We will be encouraging self-certification and other expediting reforms that will keep El Segundo ahead of the region.
At the state level we’ve been working alongside our California Business Property Association (CBPA) partners to support a potential bill that will streamline building plan checks. More on that bill soon, as well as possible bills to roll back Measure ULA in the City of Los Angeles, and tighten the warehouse bill from the previous cycle, and much more.
If you have an interest in policy but don’t have much experience please reach out to our new Director of Government and Public Affairs Chris Bowen at cbowen@bomagla.org and we will get you pulled in to one of our 6 active Regional Councils, Government Affairs Committee or our Political Action Committee (PAC).

Policy Committees in Action
South Coast AQMD provided our Codes and Regulations Committee with insights into upcoming changes to Rules 11.11 and 11.21, which address natural gas-powered equipment and VOC emission controls. Notably, the Board will vote on banning gas-fired furnaces on April 4, 2025. If approved, starting in 2029, failing gas furnaces in existing buildings must be replaced with heat pumps. Incentive programs will help cover costs. LADWP also shared updates on incentives available to property managers.
Our Property Technology (Proptech) Committee welcomed Cove, a leader in building operations and tenant experience. They shared how top real estate owners use technology to improve operations, enhance tenant experiences, and make data-driven investment decisions.
Our Sustainability Committee explored LADWP’s Recycled Water Program, discussing how it supports sustainability goals and contributes to water conservation efforts across Los Angeles.
