February 2018 Board of Directors Update
The Naramata Centre Society board met February 2-4 at Peninsula United Church in South Surrey and held productive discussions on many topics. We are grateful to the staff and members of Peninsula United for the use of their building and for welcoming us at their worship service on Sunday morning.  We especially thank board member Barbara Gregg for organizing the meeting room and food for the weekend.
Program and Accommodation Registration Opens Tomorrow!
Watch your email tomorrow morning for instructions on how to register for spring, summer and fall programs and accommodations this year. Don't worry, this will not happen at the crack of dawn! We will let you know once the link is live.
Announcing Our New Managing Director
At the meeting, we welcomed Dennis Hixson as the Centre's new Managing Director. Dennis comes to us with a wealth of experience and we are excited to have him join the Centre on a full-time basis.

Dennis comes to the Centre with over 30 years of experience developing and administering a Christian college in the lower mainland. He has extensive overseas mission experience, carrying out humanitarian projects in various countries.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, an Associate of Theology degree, a master's in counseling and is a licensed clinical counselor.

Dennis and his wife are looking forward to being part of the Naramata community. While he is proud of what he has been able to accomplish during his decades of service, his greatest joy is his four children and three grandchildren. During his downtime, Dennis works in his garden, tries out new gourmet recipes or reads a good legal thriller.
Centre Employment Opportunities
Dennis will work with the Board to hire additional staff in the coming weeks. You can read about and apply for three positions posted on Charity Village. Click theses links to read about the roles: Program Manager, Office Administrator , and Site Operations Manager

Please note that the application deadline is February 14, 2018, if you are interested in these positions or know someone who would be a good candidate.
S ummer Student Interns
We are also seeking paid summer interns for the coming Spring and Summer program seasons. Two of these positions will be hired for the May to September period and one for July and August. Leadership development is part of our mission. Interns will support our staff team, and in turn will have opportunities for training, be paired with a mentor throughout their time at the Centre, and be supported in opportunities to lead.
Each intern will work with individual Centre managers for periods of time during their internship, based on what the Centre needs and the interns' personal learning goals.  Flexibility and adaptability in responding to the Centre's needs are key elements of the intern role.  Being of service is a key element of how the Centre operates. Read the full description of the Summer Student Intern role here.

T he Board has received a number of expressions of interest that we discussed and will be following up on over the next few weeks.

We have many volunteers who support the work of the Centre in a multitude of ways. In this update I'd like to acknowledge people who support the Board by providing food for board meetings. Lori Megley-Best and Greg Best provided us with a wonderful home-cooked dinner at this Board meeting, Terry Brunner -- a former board member from Naramata -- has prepared wonderful meals for the Board when we meet at the Centre, and  Donna Simpson has nourished us with her delicious home-made soup.

Thank you to Lori, Greg, Terry and Donna! Your gifts of food are greatly appreciated.

Chair, Naramata Centre Board of Directors
