The indoor track team had a busy January competing in multiple events. We started by competing at the Southern Maryland Indoor Classic on January 4th. Highlights from this meet include: 1st place in the boys 4x200 meter relay; 3rd place in the girls 4x800 meter relay; and advancement to finals in girls 55m hurdles. At the MCPS Invitational on January 11th, highlights include 6th in the boys Triple jump, 7th in girls 55 meter hurdles, and 8th in boys 4x400 meter relay . On January 17th and 18th the team competed in the VA Showcase in Lynchburg, PA which hosted over 350 schools from 17 states. Twenty-five selected athletes from Churchill competed in multiple events over the 2 day trip with many recording season best times in their event. On January 22nd the team was back in the PG Sportsplex to compete in the MCPS Championship where we had a strong showing in the girls 800 meter run, girls 3200 meter run, girls 55 meter hurdles, girls triple jump, boys 300 meter dash, boys 1600 meter run, and boys 4x200 meter relay. This past weekend Churchill competed in the Last Track to Philly race at Georgetown Prep. Highlights of this race included: 6th in girls sprint medley relay, 4th in boys 1600 meter race walk, 4th in boys sprint medley relay, and 1st in boys triple jump. In addition, Langston Major ran a time of 9:04.38 in the 1600M Racewalk indoor track event. The time currently puts him at the 2 nd  best time in the state and 6 th  best nationally.

We look forward to cheering on our team at the next event at the 4A West Regional meet on February 6, 2020 for qualifying athletes.

9 - Coach Hakopian is Coach of the Year!

Congratulations to our very own Coach Haroot Hakopian! Coach is the Maryland Large School Coach of the Year and the United Soccer Coaches Regional Coach of the Year! Coach H lead our Girls Varsity soccer team to an 11-6 record during regular season but then went on to win the Region title and make it to the MPSSAA State Semi-Finals, narrowly losing in a shootout. Coach H’s team was the underdog throughout the playoffs but his leadership and motivation helped carry the Dawgs to only their second region title in school history.
Coach H is a fixture in the county as he has devoted countless hours to his Bulldog teams and his club teams outside of the school. Coach H is also involved on a national level with promoting and expanding girls soccer. We are so very happy and proud of these amazing honors for Coach!
