YPSO Receives Standing Ovation at MMEA Conference in Tan-Tar-A
The Young People's Symphonic Orchestra (YPSO) under the direction of Patrick Jackson performed at the Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA) Conference in Tan-Tar-A on January 23rd. This was the first time that the Community Music School has been represented as a performing ensemble at the MMEA Conference.  Not only was it an honor, but a wonderful opportunity to share with Missouri band and orchestra directors the amazing experience their students are receiving or could be receiving by participating in a full orchestra at the CMS.

The YPSO is the pinnacle of the Community Music School orchestral program composed of talented and devoted young musicians who come together from many different schools and cities to make music together. This particular group is inspiring in their weekly preparation, musical expression, and collegiality. The CMS could not be more proud of these fine and talented young musicians.

CMS Preparatory Program Winter Concert
The Preparatory Program presents its winter chamber concert on Wednesday , February 26 at 7:00 pm in the CMS Concert Hall.   Every Prep concert features great standards of the chamber literature as well as lesser known gems worth discovering.
This concert's great standards include the Brahms String Quartet No. 2 in C minor, Schumann Piano Quintet in Eb, Faure Piano Quartet No. 2 in G minor and the sprightly Haydn Quartet Op. 76, No. 1.  A chamber version of Bach's popular and effervescent Suite No. 2 in B minor, and the dark and deeply Russian Quartet No. 13 by Nicolai Myaskovsky are rounded off by the highly virtuosic clarinet quartet of Hummel (a prodigy and student of Mozart), never before heard transcriptions for horn and bassoon, and the rich and deeply melodious trio by Romberg for viola, cello and double bass.
Love a musician;
Don’t spread germs!
It is flu season and we are susceptible to sharing germs. The CMS has a professional cleaning staff, but we must all do our part to avoid the spread of the flu virus.  To this end, we share the following helpful hints from Student Health Services and ask that students come to lessons, rehearsals and classes with this in mind.

To prevent the spread of a respiratory virus practice following:
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • If soap and water are not available scrub hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed or un-sanitized hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay at home if you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or cough and sneeze into your sleeve (not your hands) discarding the tissue immediately.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available after coughing or sneezing.
