We wanted to remind you of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) benefits with the Pastoral Institute that we provide to you. As our valued employee, your well-being is important to us, and we want to make sure you have access to the resources you need.

To access the EAP benefits, we have provided you with a link to an EAP Toolkit that has valuable resources available only to EAP clients. The toolkit includes videos and tools for you and your family to use. Additionally, the link includes instructions on how to make an appointment with the Pastoral Institute and use your benefit.

 VIEW EAP TOOLKIT

We want to assure you

that your appointment will be completely confidential. We will not know who has used the benefit. We have attached a flyer that includes photos of all the clinicians available at the Pastoral Institute. You will see that they come from different ages and ethnicities. When you call the main number to make an appointment, the person who schedules the appointment will match you with a clinician that has the specialty that is needed.

If you have any questions about your benefit or need assistance in making an appointment, please contact Christy Scrivner at the Pastoral Institute. She will be happy to help. Her contact information is 706-649-6507 ext. 1243 or you can email her at cscrivner@pastoralinstitute.org.

Thank you for being a valuable member of our team, and we hope you take advantage of the EAP benefits available to you.

Best regards,

Safety Tip

WC-BILL OF RIGHTS

Know Your Exit Strategy - In an office or other building, identify where the closest exit is in case of an emergency. In construction scenarios, make sure you're familiar with the exit most easily accessible to your area. If you're involved in trenching, use best practices by positioning a ladder or ramp every 25 feet; follow safety precautions closely to avoid trench-collapse injuries.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) recently revised their password guidelines to prioritize length over complexity. Now is an excellent time to try to make your passwords

 as long as you can.

See something? Say something! Lighthouse Services provides an anonymous ethics and compliance hotline for all employees of the Columbus Consolidated Government. This includes fraud, waste, abuse, and safety violations. The purpose of the service is to ensure that any employee wishing to submit a report anonymously can do so without fear of retribution.

Employees are encouraged to use the hotline service in cases where their anonymity is desired.

Lighthouse Services’ toll-free number and other methods of reporting are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for use by employees and staff.

Included in the list of influential Georgians were Gov. Brian Kemp, Dan Amos, Chair and CEO of Aflac, Jerald Mitchell, CEO of Columbus Chamber of Commerce, and others from Columbus and around the state.

Congratulations Mayor Henderson!

February Health Observances

What is heart failure?

Heart failure means the heart isn’t pumping as well as it should. As a result, your body isn’t getting enough of the oxygen-rich blood it needs to work properly.

Signs and symptoms of heart failure:

-        Shortness of breath - breathlessness during activity (most commonly) or while at rest.

-        Persistent coughing or wheezing - coughing that produces white or pink blood-tinged mucus.

-        Buildup of excess fluid in body tissues - swelling in the feet, ankles, legs, fingers, abdomen and in other tissues and organs. As a result, weight gain is common.

-        Tiredness/Fatigue - tired feeling all the time and difficulty with everyday activities, such as shopping, climbing stairs, carrying groceries or walking. You may also feel sleepy after eating, feel weak in the legs when walking and get short of breath while being active.

-        Lack of appetite/Nausea - feeling of being full or sick to your stomach.

-        Confusion/Impaired thinking - memory loss and feelings of disorientation. A caregiver or relative may notice this first.

-        Increased heart rate - heart palpitations, which feel as if your heart is racing or throbbing.

-        Weight changes - sudden weight gain or loss can be a sign that you’re developing heart failure, or that your heart failure is progressing. Ask your health care professional how much fluid to drink every day.

If you are experiencing these symptoms, call your healthcare provider immediately.
