Message from our President . . . . .
Member

Greetings,

It’s wonderful to see some snow at the mountain, but it surely has arrived along with the somewhat usual Sugarloaf frigid air. Thanks to those of you who have already renewed your membership. We appreciate your continued support of CVOA.

CVOA had several events in January, and has some upcoming events with details noted in this Newsletter. As a reminder, If you are not feeling well please bow out of attending so as not to increase risks for your fellow members.

Wishing everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day. May everyone enjoy some great skiing and outdoor activities as days get longer and the best part of winter is before us.

There may be a few openings on the CVOA Board. I f any of you are interested or would like additional information, please contact one of the Officers or Board Members.

Show ‘N' Go Hike
Trip Leader: Jan Mildram

Meet at the Stratton Brook Hut Parking lot, just north of the Loaf Access Road.. Head out at 1:05pm. Cleats and/or snowshoes are recommended, depending on the amount of snow. Poles are important for navigating any uneven ground. We travel 15 minutes on the Narrow Gauge Pathway, then about 30 minutes up, some of which is moderately steep, but not tricky related to footing. We see the incredible view for 15 minutes or so. It’s an outstanding panorama of the Crockers, the Loaf, Burnt Mountain, and the peaks of Bigelow. The trip down is about 30 minutes. Total time is no more than 2 hours, so we will be back around 3:00 or so. This is a Show ‘N Go event, so there is no signup required.  We do this no matter the weather.

Friendly dogs are welcome

Ski Trips in 2022
Big Sky--January 22-29

Thirty-eight CVOA members had an uneventful flight from Boston to Bozeman, MT. The bus transfer to the Huntley Lodge along the Gallatin River was spectacular. We had blue skies and great skiing every day. We gathered every afternoon at the big fireplace at the hotel for cocktails, snacks and reports on the best areas to ski.

And then the Nor’Easter came rolling into New England! Our Saturday return flight was cancelled. Rescheduled flights were to be four or five days later. Nobody was happy, to say the least!! Fortunately, the masses didn’t make the trip leader walk the plank! No one complained. Instead, everyone adapted and rescheduled flights on their own. The last twenty-one CVOA members were able to leave Bozeman two days late.

We had a great group, lots of wonderful skiing and plenty of stories and laughs. New friends have been made by all. CVOA members have always been seasoned travelers, adapting to unforeseen events. This trip is the perfect example of that spirit!

My sincere thanks to everyone.

Range News
Hello All,

If you have not yet renewed your membership for the 2022 season, we encourage you to do so. I am one of those late renewers, so I understand that we range folks sometimes don't think about our memberships until Spring. So renew to ensure that your new badge makes it to your mail before the gate code changes this Spring.

Our Pistol and Rifle Ranges will continue to be plowed and accessible during the winter, as is the bathroom which is heated. Please remember to follow all posted rules and shoot safe.

Please note that your 2021 gate code will continue to be in effect through the winter. A new gate code and badges will be issued in early Spring.

Thank you all for your continued support and use of the CVOA Neal Trask Range. Have a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Update regarding the trip winner.

Both the winner and runner-up were unable to make this trip. CVOA had provided for this possibility using a Random Number Generator to choose three numbers out of 26 entrants. The third number drawn was held by John McCormack, and he will be taking the trip.
Yonder Knoll Hike
Saturday January 22, 2022

The morning started off with temps of twenty-five below. It was fifteen above with sunny skies and plenty of smiles when we started our hike. This was a record turnout with thirteen CVOA’ers, many of whom knew the trail and were leaders on the hike. It was nice to be together and make new CVOA friends including three four-legged friends some of whom are pictured here.
