It’s a time for us to continue our collective journey of honoring and deepening our knowledge of the history and contributions of African Americans and people of African descent. While some in-person celebrations may be canceled, there are a variety of other ways to be engaged and celebrate the richness of Black History Month. Below is a list of just a few activities happening in February. We hope you will join us for these learning opportunities that are food for our minds, bodies, and souls. As we continue to exercise caution during the COVID-19 pandemic, let us honor Black history and culture. Happy Black History Month!

DFS EDUCATION UPDATES CCSD has announced that it will begin the implementation of the hybrid instructional model for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 3 on Monday, March 1, 2021.   If caregivers have not completed the CCSD Survey and it is no longer available to fill out, please contact children’s principal/assistant principal (administration) as soon as possible via phone and email to request the in-person learning and transportation  Emails for school administration can be found on school websites or by calling school main offices.    Families who do not fill out the CCSD Survey or do not indicate they want in-person learning directly to their children’s schools will be assigned to a distance learning only cohort. SPRING CELEBRATION CANCELLATION In response to the current status of COVID-19 in Clark County, unfortunately we will not be holding our annual spring celebration.

TEEN DATING VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Months. The Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV) is hosting a virtual forum during Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Attendees will learn about healthy relationships and how to prevent relationship abuse. Click the flyer for more information on the forum and to register!

Raise the Future training webinars: Topic: "Adoption Commitment through the Eyes of Adolescents: Follow the Love Approach!" Date/Time: Thursday, Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Registration Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_MvV-J5cXSpqrPocBZ-mrag Details: This two-hour web-based training offers child welfare professionals, caregivers, and parents of foster/adoptive children, youth, and adolescents interactive training and discussion. The webinar will include current data regarding teens in the U.S. foster care system, plus a discussion of how emancipation data improves when just one adult commits to a child’s well-being and permanent future. We will consider the importance of how child welfare is shifting perceived outcomes and how we can best benefit adolescents through more efficient and specific permanency recruitment - using connection strategies
