General Membership Meeting Notes
February 12, 2020
 
Welcome: Wakefield Hare welcomed everyone to the meeting and gave a blessing.

Introductions: Everyone stood and introduced themselves with their position and titles.

Reports:

City of Savannah - No Representative Present
With the passing of City Mayor Don Dillman, Kirk Larson (Alderman) is now Mayor Pro tem. It is anticipated that Kirk will be appointed City Mayor at the next City Council Meeting. Kirk's Alderman's position is would be vacant. It is expected that Jerry Baker would be appointed to the position.

Andrew County - Cindy Esely
Cindy reported that the County Clerk's Office is getting ready for elections in March and April. The County Commissioners are in Columbia, MO for training this week. Cindy informed everyone to please feel free to visit and ask questions of any of the Court House staff.

Schools- Dr. Eric Kurre, Savannah R-3 Superintendent
Dr. Kurre reported that winter sports are winding down. Jill Esely Durnin was inducted into the 2019 Missouri Sports Hall of Fame recently and was recognized last week at the SHS Homecoming Game.
The School Board has approved the 2020-2021 calendar. Start date will be a little later this year, August 24th. The School Board still will have first semester ending by Christmas break. Christmas break will be long for students because there will be a week of professional development for teachers in the first week of January.
A Football Coach was hired at the February 11th School Board Meeting.
The School Levy Tax of .69 cents will be on the April ballot with a ten year sunset clause.

Chamber - Mary Ingersoll
The Chamber would like to welcome new members, Living Community of St. Joseph and KRYS Properties, Rhys and Kristina Wilson.

Facebook Tuesday Take Overs are going well. The February 11th take over video with the Salon on the Square was already viewed 2,500 times. Please let Mary or Cindy know if you're interested in participating.

There is now a Savannah/Andrew County Community Facebook Group . Chamber members are encouraged to post their special offers, events or announcements in the group. With more than 1,700 group members, this is an excellent free resource for business promotion.

The state of Missouri Bicentennial is coming up and two Andrew County resident's photos have been chosen from thousands submitted to the final 200 entries to be published. Congratulations to Lori Wilson and Heather Emmendorfer.

Great Northwest Days was well attended by Andrew County. Becky Gall reported that they attended a Legislative Session, Governor's Speech and a visited with Senator Dan Hegeman and Representative Sheila Solon. The biggest takeaway for Becky was awareness of many State grants and programs that might benefit Andrew County and are not being utilized.

Living Community of St. Joseph - Ashley Davis
Living Community of St. Joseph is a new Chamber Member. Ashley Davis said it has been in business for fifteen years. They offer adult living, assisted living, rehab and long term care rooms. Please feel free to stop by and have Ashley give you a tour.

Andrew County Museum - Jan Glenn
Upcoming Programs at the Museum are:
February 29th - Blacks In Early Andrew County
March - Wrestling - program will be about two brothers from Savannah that were early wrestlers. The program will also feature area State Wrestling Champions.
April 4th - Prom Dresses Through The Ages

Northwest Missouri Enterprise Facilitator - Keli Morris
Their annual meeting will be February 29th at the Mother Pia Center in Savannah. There will be a Google presentation in Maryville, on search engine optimization. Let Keli know if you're interested. There are also a Missouri Tax Credits available. These are 70% tax credits available if you have Missouri Business Income. $1000 minimum. Donation goes to NWMEF. Contact Keli with any questions.
Mary Ingersoll praised Northwest Missouri Enterprise Facilitation as being a great resource to use for entrepreneurs.

Leadership Savannah - Sarah Zahnd
Leadership Savannah Class met on February 11th with the focus on health care. They
toured the Andrew County Health Department, Andrew County Senior Center, Andrew County Ambulance and Shady Lawn Nursing Home. The Health Department has hired an Insurance Biller, so that people with insurance can receive services. The Ambulance has added three new automated CPR machines to their ambulances. The Senior Center has event rental for their large room and kitchen, for five hours for only $100.00. Shady Lawn is building a new assisted living addition. We are very fortunate to have these services here in Andrew County.


Member News

Jody Jordan reported that the Savannah Alumni Golf Tournament will be held June 9th. This benefits students in the Savannah District.

Inspirations Dance Center has added three new adult dance classes. There is Tap, Hip-Hop, Ballet and Jazz.

Dean VanSchoiack is having a Campaign Kickoff at Stoney Creek Hotel in St. Joseph. This will be on February 29th at 5:00 pm, with appetizers being served. Dean is running for State Representative for Buchanan and Andrew Counties.
