"Love is a friendship set to music"

Joseph Campbell

Hello Chamber Members,

February is upon us and I am sure that spring is just around the corner. (Although it is probably a long corner....).

We hope that our members are doing well, traditionally this is a slower time of the year so if you are having any promotions please forward them so that we can help to promote them for you. We are here to work for you.

Once again we are working on our International Women's Day forum with Rio Tinto Alcan. If you are interested in being a sponsor for this event to help make it bigger and better please contact the office. Stay tuned for more details.

Throughout the year we have events and always like to give away some door prizes, if you are able to help in this manner please let me know.

Have a great February and take someone out for a coffee and a chat, whether it is the love of your life, a good friend or someone who may just need that bit of support from an acquaintance. You will both feel better for it.

Once again w

Talk soon,

Shelley

Trades Discovery Program

CNC Vanderhoof is holding a Trades Discovery Program from Feb. 4 - 20, 2025 this course introduces and prepare students to enter the workforce by acquiring a skilled trades apprenticeship.

While there are two students who are of majority age, most students are in grade 11 / 12 and in the process of completing their high school graduation requirements; there are sixteen students registered in this program. Part of course objectives is for students to learn how to prepare for and obtain employment; and part of this process, as you are aware, is for them to experience an interview with a prospective employer and hopefully be offered employment, which can ideally lead to an apprenticeship.

Employers can be from all sectors and can include the following industries: restaurants; automotive; welding / fabricating; heavy equipment; building maintenance; technology; finance / bookkeeping; retail; to list just a few examples.

CNC Trades Discovery Program - Core Skills is inviting potential employers to participate in a Recruitment / Job Fair on Thursday, February 20 at CNC Vanderhoof from 9:30 am - 2:30 pm. This event will give employers an opportunity to interview students enrolled in this program to develop a short-list of candidates that may be suitable for their staffing needs. The intent of this job fair, also, is to give students practical experience in the job interview process to better prepare them to enter the world of work. Interested employers are asked to contact the instructor for more information:

Business Owners

As you are aware, the Federal Government has made several changes to the renewal of work visas. Councillor Frenkel has asked the CALP staff to gather the information to provide Council with an approximate number of those impacted by these changes. They hope to lobby our MP and work to have Vanderhoof Classified as Rural, which would assist in the renewal process.

If you could forward the number of your employees that the changes to the TWV renewal process is impacting in your establishment by Feb. 1st, it would be appreciated.

Thank you for you assistance.

Please provide your numbers to

at the Library 250-567-4060

or email Karen any questions or concerns

Thank you.
