See How IVLP Visitors Discovered Los Angeles
|

Last month, IVCLA started the new year by welcoming business experts from Morocco on an IVLP program focused on "
Startups and the U.S. Entrepreneurship Ecosystem
." During their time in L.A., IVCLA arranged for the group to meet with
Erica Anjum
, Deputy Director at
UCLA's African Studies Center
, to discuss the benefits of research development and international exchange programs in Morocco. Their program also included meetings with the
Jet Propulsion Laboratory (NASA)
, and the
Aerospace Corporation
, where they learned more about technological advancements in national-security implementations and
space exploration.

IVCLA also welcomed directors and producers from India on the program "
Film as a Medium for Social Change." The group started their program in L.A. with a tour at Warner Bros., where they explored the studio's history in the entertainment industry. Their program also included meetings with
Seed&Spark, the
International Youth Media Summit, the
Independent Film and Television Alliance,
Film Independent, and the
Jim Henson Company. The group's meetings covered a full range of challenges many filmmakers face, from developing relationships with stakeholders to effectively using films to raise awareness about important issues.

in Washington, D.C. last month where they connected with community partners from all over the United States.

Welcome IVCLA's Winter Intern!
|
|
Karin Kitsuda is a third-year undergraduate student at UCLA, majoring in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations and a minor in Global Studies. Coming from a multicultural background and having been born and raised attending international schools in Tokyo, Japan, Karin has a keen interest in global affairs and cultures. She is passionate about international relations, social justice, and global development, and hopes to pursue a career in these fields. At UCLA, she serves as a board member of the Global Development Lab, which endeavors to provide a results-driven space for students to research, incubate, and implement international development initiatives. She is also a member of IGNITE, which aims to build political leadership and civic engagement among young women. As IVCLA's new International Programming intern, Karin
assists the staff on research for project proposals and professional meetings
for our IVLP visitors.

IVCLA Celebrates 40th Anniversary

This year IVCLA celebrates its 40
th
Anniversary! For the past 40 years IVCLA has been creating international connections by welcoming innovators and changemakers from around the world. Through our programs, global collaborations are developed that would not otherwise be possible. IVCLA’s primary exchange program, the
International Visitor Leadership Program
(IVLP), is celebrating an anniversary this year too – its 80
th
Anniversary! In the last 80 years more than 200,000 International Visitors have engaged with Americans through the IVLP, including more than 500 current or former Chiefs of State or Heads of Government. We will keep you posted about celebrations for both anniversaries that will be taking place throughout the year!

World Trade Week Scholarships Open!
|
|
The World Trade Week committee offers scholarships to aspiring students in international trade fields. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding graduating high school seniors entering an accredited college or university with the goal of a career in international trade, as well as college students pursuing international degrees. By fostering international trade education and international business development, the committee hopes to develop a network of international trade professionals willing to provide mentoring to future students interested in international business
.
Deadline to apply is Friday, March 13, 2020.

Put on your traveling shoes and join CIEE for a
summer study abroad programs. Three types of programs are offered in over 30 destinations:
Language & Culture programs in seven different languages,
Service & Leadership programs in areas like children’s rights or education, and
Global Discovery programs in marine science and global entrepreneurship, to name a few.
Any high school student is eligible to apply. Scholarships will be awarded based on both merit and financial need. The final deadline to
apply is

The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is the world famous international science and engineering fair for high school students and
the world’s largest international pre-college science competition.
Society for Science & the Public is seeking interpreters and general volunteers for Regeneron ISEF 2020. More than 500 volunteers across a spectrum of activities are needed. Volunteer opportunities are available during the week in a range of shifts!
