The City of Greater Sudbury - News and Updates, February 2025

A Message from the Mayor

February Update

We have some exciting news to share as we move into February. First, the Government of Ontario has announced funding to support the creation of the HARTbeat Health & Wellness Centre, which will include the vital 24/7 care at the Lorraine Street Transitional Housing Program. This investment is a crucial step forward in providing essential support for individuals struggling with homelessness, mental health, and addictions.

In addition, Greater Sudbury has been selected to benefit from the Federal Government’s Housing Affordability Fund (HAF), which will help address the critical need for additional housing in our community. This funding will help us to enact plans in our Housing Supply Strategy and Roadmap to End Homelessness.

We also recently welcomed the announcement of the Rural and Francophone Community Immigration Pilot Programs (RCIP/FCIP). These programs will help address labour shortages and attract skilled workers to our region, contributing to a stronger workforce and ensuring Greater Sudbury remains a welcoming, thriving community.

As we embrace the winter season, I encourage you to join us for Snow Day 2025 on February 22 at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre. This free, familyfriendly event will feature snowshoeing, sliding, winter crafts, hot chocolate, and morean ideal way to enjoy the outdoors and celebrate the season with friends and family.

Thank you for being a part of what makes Greater Sudbury such a special place.

Mayor Paul Lefebvre
