Insignia of the Congregation of Holy Cross
The Cross, Our Hope
By Brian Vetter, C.S.C.

Brian Vetter, a St. Brigid of Kildare parishioner since 2009 and St. Charles alumnus, is at the University of Notre Dame studying for a four year Master of Divinity degree. Below is his reflection on Christian Hope.

Growing up Catholic, I often heard the word "hope" used as a virtue Christians should aspire to have. When people said things like "Times may be tough, but have hope," I often questioned and disagreed with this advice, thinking, "That doesn't make sense-people deal with suffering their whole lives, how can they have hope that it will get any better?" It was not until I encountered the Congregation of Holy Cross during college that I began to find answers to this difficult question of faith.

EPIC Food Collection Thank You

Last month our EPIC Youth Ministry hosted a food drive to support the Family Mentor Foundation.

Thank you to all who contributed! The event was a huge success, and below is a sample of the many thank you letters we received.

Dear Members of St. Brigid of Kildare,

We are grateful for your generous donation of over 6,300 food items to Family Mentor Foundation. Your generosity helps provide weekend food throughout the school year to 1,500 children in Columbus, Worthington, and Southwestern City Schools.

Thank you also for the hundreds of cards of encouragement and for the donation inventory. Not only did you make a difference, you made a huge impact!

Family Mentor Foundation would not be the organization we are if it weren't for kind and giving hearts like yours. We look forward to your partnership again next year.

With Sincere Gratitude,
Susie, Meegan & Emily, Family Mentor Foundation

Lenten Soup Suppers & Stations of the Cross

A NEW MARCH MADNESS ON THE TUESDAYS OF MARCH 2020:
MARCH 3    MARCH 10   MARCH 17     MARCH 24   MARCH 31

Lent -- that ancient season of reflection and preparation for Easter -- begins on February 27, 2020. Many things have been planned to invite you to go deeper into the spiritual riches that comes to us during this holy season, and we invite you to participate in them.

This year take a different approach to MARCH MADNESS -- come to the Lenten Soup Suppers. They begin on March 3 at 6:00 PM in Hendricks Hall and will be on each of the Tuesdays of March. We gather for a simple supper of soup and bread. This simple meal combined with some information about people in other parts of our world will help remind us of the simplicity of life and the work of Catholic Relief Services. You only need to bring yourself, family and friends. The soup and the bread are provided by various Parish Ministries and groups. You are their guests. Keep in mind everyone in the parish is invited to come and share. Stations of the Cross follow the supper for those who wish to attend . The devotion called The Stations of the Cross is very ancient and existed in various forms. In 1731 Pope Clement XII permitted stations to be created in all churches and fixed the number at 14. Come and follow the path Jesus took towards Calvary. Watch the bulletin each week for a reminder. -Katherine Florian and Sister Teresa

Altar Server Training is March 1
All students in the Fifth grade and older are invited to become Altar Servers for the Weekend and Holy Day Masses.

Is the Lord calling upon your son or daughter to serve? Have them answer that call by becoming an Altar Server! St. Brigid of Kildare is encouraging all those in fifth grade and above to consider becoming an Altar Server. Attend one short training session, study one short section from the Liturgical Ministry Manual, receive three mentoring sessions with an experienced Altar Server, and they will be ready to serve the Lord as an Altar Server. What a wonderful, rewarding service!

Our next training session for Altar Servers is March 1, 2020, Sunday afternoon in the Church from 3:00 pm until 5:30 pm. Please register by February 24th, so we can be prepared to welcome you. To register online, please click here. For more information please contact Todd Pepe or Joe Feehan at [email protected].
