LBPD Releases Data Collected from the Racial and Identity Profiling Act (RIPA)

The Long Beach Police Department believes in community engagement, transparency and accountability. Linked below is data portal featuring data from the Racial and Identity Profiling Act (RIPA) that our department is performing a comprehensive analysis on to ensure we are upholding the constitutional rights of all individuals. As part of our commitment to transparency, we are providing the raw RIPA data to our community through this portal, which also provides the community with tools to further understand the data through visualization.

On the Patrol Beat
North Division Traffic Stop
Earlier last month, a North Division officer observed a driver making a dangerous maneuver. After the driver failed to yield for a traffic stop, the officer again located the vehicle unoccupied nearby and learned that the suspect was possibly in a backyard. With the assistance of our LBPD helicopter, officers safely apprehended the suspect. During their investigation, officers located a replica firearm in the vehicle as well as catalytic converters and a saw. ! 
East Directed Enforcement Team Traffic Stop

Recently, East Division Directed Enforcement Team (DET) officers were on patrol when they conducted a traffic stop which resulted in seizing a loaded firearm and arresting a suspect on numerous firearm-related offenses. We commend these officers and their continued efforts to combat violent crime in Long Beach.

Throughout February, Our East Division officers continued to make connections and build relationships with our residents during Neighborhood Walks!

Q&A With Former Deputy Chief Richard Conant


We got to catch up with retired LBPD Deputy Chief Richard Conant. He answered a few of our questions and provided some very valuable advice to young officers. 

What is one of your favorite memories during your tenure at LBPD? 
It’s hard to choose just one, but I can say that some of my fondest memories are of my time working in small-specialized units and the officers and support staff I worked with. 
 Did you have a mentor during your time here? 
I’ve had numerous mentors within the Department and from outside of the profession. 
 What’s the best advice you would you give any young officer? 
Make sure you understand the department’s core values and how they fit in a community partnership. We all entered the profession with an idea of what type of officer we wanted to be. Remember that and work to become that type of exemplary officer.
