Heritage Conservancy's Education and Community Programs team recently worked with young writers in the Bristol area to capture local nature in words.
Our second annual nature writing contest, 100 Wild Words, challenged kids to connect with nature in their community and capture the experience in 100 words or less. Winners were announced at a literary celebration hosted at Margaret R. Grundy Library in Bristol, and young authors read their work. Read the winners.
Another project allowed two student volunteers from Conwell-Egan Catholic High School to author an illustrated children's book that tells the story of Heritage Conservancy's Croydon Woods Nature Preserve and its cleanup (see the illustration above). Their book, Bristol and a Bird, is being shared at family events and used in our educational programs in the area.
