Teen Winter Craze

(All Locations via Beanstack)

Win prizes just for reading during the 2023 Teen Winter Craze Reading Challenge for grades 6-12. Log reading time, books finished, and/or books reviewed to be entered into weekly prize drawings. The more you complete, the more tickets you earn!


We will name 2 weekly winners, and all who participate will be entered into the grand prize drawing for a MYSTERY BOX!

Love Stinks! Anti-Valentine's Day

Defiance Public Library: Monday, February 13 - 4-5:30 PM

Sherwood Branch Library: Tuesday, February 14 - 5-6 PM


Grades 6-12 are invited to the Teen Space at Defiance Public Library on February 13 from 4:00-5:30 PM and Sherwood Branch Library on February 14 from 5:00-6:00 PM for Anti-Valentine’s Day.


Compose break-up letters, participate in celebrity couples trivia, listen to the ultimate breakup song playlist, and make anti-Valentine’s Day crafts.


Moody, black clothing is more than welcome! No registration required.

CHESS CLUB

(Defiance Public Library)


Teens and adults are invited to Chess Club at Defiance Public Library on the first Tuesday of each month, from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM in the Reading Room.


We welcome beginners who want to learn, as well as seasoned players. A limited number of chess boards will be available, so bring your own if you wish!


No registration required.

TEEN NIGHT THURSDAY

(Defiance Public Library)


Every Thursday is Teen Night in the teen space at Defiance Public Library!


From 4:00 PM to close, those in grades 6-12 are invited to hang out and socialize, use the gaming systems, or take part in various evening activities including scavenger hunts, crafts, trivia challenges, games, and more!

ROBLOX CLUB

(Johnson Memorial Library)


Visit Johnson Memorial Library every other Friday from 3:00-4:45 PM for Roblox Club!

A MOVIE MATINEE

(Sherwood Branch Library)


Enjoy your day off from school with a movie matinee at Sherwood Branch Library!


On Monday, February 20 at 2 PM., we’ll be showing “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” in the Community Room, complete with drinks and snacks.


All ages are welcome to join. No registration required.

LITKIT (A BOOK SUBSCRIPTION BOX)

To participate in this subscription service, you must be between the ages of 13-25 and have a DPLS library card. There will be library books in the box that will need to be checked out to your library card.


Only 10 boxes will be available. You will be placed on a waiting list if registration is full.


The box will be ready for pick up by the first of the month. You will receive an email notifying you that the box is ready for pick up.


If the box is not claimed by the seventh of the month, it will go to the next person on the waiting list.


Most everything in this box is yours to keep, we just ask that you return the two library books and box by the 25th of the month to any DPLS location.


This is a three month subscription. After the subscription period is over, you will need to sign up again to receive more boxes.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The book of the month is the YA gothic romance called Anatomy: A Love Story by Dana Schwartz.


Edinburgh, 1817. 


Hazel Sinnett wants nothing more than to be a surgeon, but when she is kicked out Dr. Beecham's lecture for being a woman, her hopes are dashed.


However, Hazel and Dr. Beechman strike up a deal. If she can pass the medical examination on her own, the university will allow her to enroll.


A chance encounter with Jack Currer is just what Hazel needs for Jack digs up bodies for a profit. However, a shroud of mystery envelopes Jack and the pair are thrust into a world of secrets and danger.

SQUEEZY McSQUEEZY

Hello there my dearest lemony friends,


We drove over to Johnson Memorial Library yesterday to join the teens in the pillow pandemonium called Potions, Pajamas, Pillows, and Popcorn.


We made these awesome potions using water beads, syringes, and lights. You can see us chilling in the buckets of beads. In the other picture, Emily is showing off her finished potion and of course wearing some cozy pajamas.


The bottom pictures are of us watching "Teenagers for Outer Space" and eating our popcorn.


We had so much fun, despite the terrible ending of the movie... Oh that movie...
