Flint Commerce Center's First Building Near Completion

Building C at Flint Commerce Center is on track to be completed by this summer -- the first of six slated for the 370-acre industrial park in De Soto. The structure will have 1M square feet of industrial space; about half has already been leased by Panasonic to support its electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility in nearby Astra Enterprise Park.

The building is a cross-dock distribution center and is being constructed with tilt-up concrete panels and 40-foot clear heights. In addition, it will have:

  • Four drive-through doors
  • Capacity for 168 dock doors; 98 constructed by completion
  • Parking for 515 cars and 251 trailers

The construction and development team for the first building at the $390 million industrial park, includes:

  • General contractor: Contegra Construction Co
  • Development team: Davidson Architecture and Engineering, BHC Civil Engineering & Surveying, PKMR Engineers, Wallace Engineering and CFS Engineers

Road Expansions Help Make Way for New Development

As our community expands and continues to draw interest from businesses and developers, the City is working to ensure our roadways support the growth.

103rd Street Widening Project: The City is working with KDOT to update 4.5 miles of the current two-lane asphalt road to a divided, four-lane roadway between K-10 and Evening Star Road.

K-10 Corridor Capacity Improvements Project: KDOT is evaluating the key role K-10 plays in supporting development in the area, considering a variety of options for the 16.5-mile stretch of highway. Among the ideas being examined:

  • K-10 widening: A look at when and where additional lanes may be needed.
  • Interchange improvements: Among those being looked at: Evening Star Road, Edgerton Road, Lexington Avenue, Kill Creek Road, Cedar Creek Parkway, Prairie Star Parkway, Woodland Road, Ridgeview Road and Renner Boulevard.
  • Bridge improvements: Widening or replacing existing bridges
  • System improvements: Improvements at the K-10/K-7 and K-10/I-435/I-35 system interchanges
  • Non-roadway solutions: KDOT will look at transit, technology and other non-roadway improvement opportunities.

The De Soto City Council will receive an update on the project at the end of March. Learn more about the study here.

83rd and Lexington Study: De Soto officials are exploring improvements along 83rd and Lexington Avenue, spanning from K-10 to the City's eastern limits.

  • A public engagement effort sought feedback from residents. The study asked questions about roundabouts, areas of concern, bike lanes, traffic signals and more.
  • The study ends Feb. 23 and results will be shared once compiled.
