Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial intelligence (AI) involves using computers to do things that traditionally require human intelligence. AI can process large amounts of data in ways that humans cannot. Recently, AI has been in the news for a program called ChatGPT. ChatGPT is designed to respond to text-based inputs, provide relevant information, and answer questions. Here are some things that parents may want to know about ChatGPT:

  1. ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence model. It is not human and does not have thoughts or feelings like humans do.
  2. ChatGPT is designed to learn from the data it is trained on. It has been trained on a vast amount of text data to help it understand language and provide accurate responses to questions.
  3. ChatGPT can provide information on various topics, from science and technology to history and current events.

Mr. Heath has shared information with all of our teachers about ChatGPT in our last IT News and Notes. He asked teachers to try ChatGPT when appropriate, so we can begin to discover the opportunities and limitations of this newer technology. Through Cardinal Nation, students at the high school have shared both positive and potential negatives of Chat GPT. As partners in supporting your children, we want to make you aware of this technology so that you, too, can have the opportunity to talk with your children about ChatGPT and other AI tools. Check out the article below from Common Sense Media on "How to Talk to Your Kids About ChatGPT."

There are a ton of helpful apps that can make things a little easier, though. Here are some great suggestions:
