February 2018: What's New
Summer Camp Registration Opens March 12
As the sun starts to break through the winter clouds, it's time to start thinking ahead to summer! Registration for our summer camps will open on Monday, March 12.

We offer camps for 2-year-olds, 3- to 4-year-olds, and 5- to 7-year-olds. Camps are either morning (9:00-12:00) or afternoon (1:00-4:00), with the option of adding extended care for ages 3-7 between 12:00-1:00 for an all-day experience.

Our camps fill up quickly every year, so make sure to register early to get a spot in the camps you want! Full schedule and details will be posted soon.
Parent-Child Home Program Helps Books Come to Life
As part of year two of our Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP), Home Visitors and families read The Birthday Box by Leslie Patricelli. The Birthday Box is a story about a little boy who receives the gift of a puppy in a large box. Like most children, the boy finds the box just as exciting as the present itself. He uses his imagination to take the dog on many adventures by transforming the box into a boat, a plane, and much more.

As an extension to this book, Home Visitors provide each child with a large box so that they can begin their own adventures! As you can see, Lyla (pictured left) has transformed her box into a princess castle. We know she will enjoy many happy hours of imaginative play in her castle.
Don't Wait for a Doctor's Referral - You Can Self-Refer for Developmental Evaluations through Encompass
If you are having questions or concerns about your child's development, Encompass is here to help you. Our Birth to Three Early Intervention Program serves all children ages 0 to 3 in the Issaquah, Riverview, and Snoqualmie Valley School Districts.

We provide evaluations in the home at NO cost to the family. You do not need a referral from a Primary Care Physician for us to evaluate your child. If therapy is recommended based on the initial evaluation, we bill insurance for ongoing treatment, with families paying for any out-of-pocket expenses not covered by insurance.

If you have any questions, please call Melissa Rhodes, Patient Care Coordinator, at 425.888.3347 x. 2311. Click below to download a free Developmental Milestones brochure to track your child's development at home.
Ms. Nikki's Class Learns about Germs!
Ms. Nikki's class combined science with a hands-on art project, first learning about germs and then making their own out of clay, pipe cleaners, and other craft supplies.

Student Designs Kaleidoscope Inspired by Encompass
Melissa Black, an Interior Design student at Bellevue College, designed a large-scale kaleidoscope inspired by Encompass for a class project. The assignment was to work with a local nonprofit to design an installation that would be placed in Pioneer Square. Melissa has a brother with autism, so she chose to work with Encompass.

Melissa's design idea is an interactive kaleidoscope that can also involve multiple participants. While one person looks through the kaleidoscope, in order to change the view while looking through, they would need to engage someone else to turn the spokes on the far end of the kaleidoscope.

While the project is just an idea at this point, Melissa and her classmates will be submitting their projects to the Seattle Design Festival in the fall, and one project will be selected to be built.
Preschool Baking Unit Brings in Special Guests
For the past month, our preschoolers have been studying baking. To help teach them about different kinds of baking, we were lucky enough to have visitors come from Steve's Donuts and Remlinger Farms!
