UCC MPS February E-News

It has recently been reported that among the thousands of missing Palestinians in Gaza, there are nearly 3000 people whose bodies were likely eviscerated by illegal weapons. According to an Al Jazeera investigation, Israeli forces used internationally prohibited bombs that could generate heat of up to 3,500 degrees Celsius (6,332 degrees Fahrenheit), capable of turning human bodies into ash in an instant. The investigation also revealed that many of those bombs were provided to Israel by the United States.

The true horrors of Gaza continue to be revealed, but we are at a crucial crossroads. If we want the full extent of Israeli crimes to be uncovered, there must be large-scale, international efforts to interrupt and sanction the work of Trump's so-called "board of peace," which met for the first time yesterday in Washington D.C.

There has been a clearly stated plan that will cover up Israel's crimes in Gaza and bury evidence. The plan, outlined by Jared Kushner in a speech he gave in Davos, would turn Gaza into a waterfront riviera, and would require that the rubble be bulldozed and covered up in order to make room for new real estate developments. Indeed, the process of bulldozing and flattening the rubble has already begun.

Can you imagine? The bodies of thousands of Palestinians that are still under the rubble could be buried forever, with no one ever knowing who they were, and survivors never knowing where their loved ones are buried. Luxery condos would be built over mass graves. The rich and powerful aim to build their Mediterranean playground on the back of Palestinian suffering.

It's unclear what mechanisms there are to resist the Trump administration's plans for "new Gaza," especially since it has the backing of a UN resolution. But it is clear that we cannot let this moment pass without at the very least bearing witness to the monstrous injustice that is being perpetrated. As always, this is not the time to turn away.

Recently, I received an email from my very conservative senator with a poll, asking his constituents if they support Israel. I was all too happy to let this senator, who is a stauch supporter of Israel, that I did not. To me, this is further evidence of cracks in the pillars of US support for Israel. We need to exploit those cracks, make them wider and wider until the pillars themselves collapse. If we can do that, maybe we can begin to force change. To be sure, there is a long way to go, and it may feel impossible right now, but as the popular proverb says, sometimes, the impossible will take a little while. Not to mention, our faith tells us that with God, even the impossible can become reality.

So, do not give up hope. As Palestinians will often tell us, they do not have the luxury of despair, therefore, to be in solidarity with them means we must hold onto hope as well. Keep fighting the good fight. Keep speaking out. Keep working for collective liberation. And keep all eyes on Palestine.

Take Action: Demand an Arms Embargo

The US continues to provide Israel with massive quantities of weaponry, including a new $6.67 billion in new arms sales approved by Pres. Trump and bypassing Congress, adding to an already staggering $31 billion by Oct. 2025.

The US must do all it can to end Israeli violence against Palestinians. Call on your Senators and Congressional representative to:

  • Prevent the Trump administration from delivering more major US weapons to Israel.

  • Oppose violence by Israeli settlers in the West Bank and authorize sanctions against those who do.

  • Urge Israel to allow Palestinians in Gaza – especially children – to travel with their families to seek urgent medical care in Jerusalem or elsewhere with guarantees of return.

It’s extremely important that Members of Congress hear from their constituents right now that they oppose giving more weapons to Israel! Write your Representative and ask them to cosponsor H.R.3565, the Block the Bombs Act.

By introducing this bill, Members of Congress are proactively trying to block the Trump administration from delivering major US weapons to Israel–bombs, tank rounds, and artillery shells–which it has used in its mass killing of Palestinians in Gaza.

If enacted into law, this bill would block the following weapons to Israel: BLU-109 bunker busting bombs, MK80 series bombs, GBU-39 small diameter bomb variants, Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs), SPICE gliding bomb assemblies, 120mm tank ammunition, and 155mm artillery ammunition, including white phosphorus munitions.

Liturgical Resources for Lent

The UCC Movement for Palestinian Solidarity Liturgical Resources Team is honored to offer a selection of 2026 worship resources designed to aid congregations in incorporating themes of Palestinian liberation, solidarity, and justice into their Lenten worship services.

Our 2026 collection includes prayers for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday, as well as a Lenten communion liturgy that can be threaded throughout the season.

You can access all resources for free on our substack page. Feel free to use these resources as is, or to edit them for your own context and purposes, and if you do use our resources, we encourage you to let us know. We look forward to partnering with congregations in their journey to weave Palestinian liberation and solidarity into the vital fabric of their worship life. It's yet one more way for us to collectively keep all eyes on Palestine.

Resource for Congregational Study:

Faith in a Time of Genocide

Three Christian organizations have jointly release a new congregational study guide for the confessional document A Moment of Truth: Faith in a Time of Genocide, the recently issued Kairos Palestine II statement from Palestinian Christian leaders. (Issued Nov. 2025).

Developed by The Palestine Justice Network (PJN) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), with United Methodists for Kairos Response (UMKR), and Friends of Sabeel North America (FOSNA), the study guide is a free digital download.

This resource invites congregations into a sacred dialogue with the Kairos Palestine II document—a living confession born from the heart of Palestinian Christian suffering. To study it during Lent, that ancient season of preparation and renewal, is to walk the path of baptism once more: to rediscover what it means to pledge our faith in Christ and to boldly renounce the sin and evil alive in our world today.

UCC MPS Delegation to Palestine

August 2026

The United Church of Christ Movement for Palestinian Solidarity (UCCMPS) is organizing a UCC Delegation to Palestine in August 2026 and we are hoping that you'll consider joining us.

Our intention is to travel with at least 15, and as many as 30 leaders, and to meet Palestinian Christians face to face, hear their first-hand testimonies and wrestle with the implications of their call for solidarity, resistance and frienship in a moment of excrutiating violence and immense need. Working with our partners at Sabeel (the Ecumenical Liberation Theology Centre in Jersusalem), we are designing an experience that will deepen relationships, expand our capacity for "costly solidarity," and inspire individuals for the work ahead.

As we recruit for this 2026 delegation, we’re especially mindful of the connections between Palestinian eforts to dismantle Zionism and racism in their context and our efforts to dismantle white supremacy and Christian nationalism in the U.S. We believe this delegation is timely and critical for both communities, as we move forward united and courageous and inspired by the faith we share.

Our 9-day stay will include visits with Palestinian clergy and theologians, Kairos Palestine organizers, West Bank human rights defenders and more. We’ll visit villages besieged by settler violence and resisting through loving nonviolence, through indigenous wisdom and practice. We’ll meet Palestinian and Israeli activists committed to the Boycott Divestment Sanctions campaign, and imagining new forms of justice, accountability and peace together.

Are you interested? Will you join us on this delegation? Your participation will add so much to the experience we’ll have together…and will be a source of encouragement to our Palestinian friends and partners. As always, we are eager to talk and invite any questions you may have about the process, the experience and our purpose in going together.
