Caregiving Is Love—And You Don’t Have to Do It Alone

Caregiving is one of the most meaningful expressions of love. Whether you’re a middle-aged adult caring for aging parents while raising children, a spouse supporting a partner or a grandparent raising a grandchild, caregiving often means showing up every day in ways both big and small.

This Valentine’s Day, we want caregivers in our community to know that love shouldn’t mean doing it alone. No matter where you are on your caregiving journey, questions and challenges are normal—and support is available.

Your local Area Agency on Aging, Tri-County Office on Aging, is here to help. We connect caregivers with trusted resources, practical services and emotional support to make caregiving more manageable and sustainable. From caregiver respite and support groups to help with managing medications and finding local services, we’re your local source for answers on all things caregiving.

If you or someone you know could use support caring for a loved one, we invite you to reach out. Learn more about our caregiver services by calling 517-887-1440 or visiting us online at tcoa.org

Volunteer Spotlight

Kristin Headshot

The Volunteer Spotlight for February is... Kristin, a Central Kitchen Volunteer!

About Kristin:

"I’m a retired Nurse Consultant from the State of Michigan and Nurse Manager/staff nurse from Sparrow Hospital.

I began volunteering with TCOA during the Covid-19 pandemic. I delivered and distributed boxes of frozen meals to seniors at the Bath Township and Sam Corey Senior Centers while the senior dining sites were closed. It was fun to get to know all the “regulars” and check in on how they were doing as they came to pick up their meal boxes. It was a good way to keep in touch with the seniors during the time of extended isolation. I also delivered commodity boxes to home-bound seniors. I’ve volunteered in the TCOA kitchen weekly for the last 3-4 years. I’m amazed at the amount of food that is prepared and processed for many different programs such as daily or weekly senior dining sites, early childhood classes, Meals on Wheels and PACE (a program that assists seniors to stay in their homes). I enjoy working with the kitchen staff in whatever the project is for the day. I’m proud to help with this very important community outreach service."

✨ Thank you, Kristin, for making nutritious meals available to folks in the community! ✨
