Caregiving is not an easy job. And though being a caregiver can be deeply rewarding, if you are a caregiver and sometimes feel tired, frustrated or unprepared for some of the challenges of taking care of another - whether they are a spouse, parent, relative, or friend - you are not alone.

The Tri-County Office on Aging wants to help you in your Caregiving journey. TCOA has a number of services just for you to help you be your best self while providing the best possible care to those you love.

Visit tcoa.org/caregiver-support/ to learn more about the following programs and services:

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment!

Medicare Advantage Plan Open Enrollment is January 1 - March 31!

Individuals who are currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan can change their coverage during this time. Reasons why a person might want to change their coverage include:

  • Lower costs for medications
  • Network accepted by medical providers
  • Lower copays for provider visits and procedures
  • Broader coverage for extra benefits including vision, dental, and over the counter supplies

If you are in a Medicare Advantage Plan, during this period you can:

  • Switch to another Medicare Advantage Plan
  • Drop your Medicare Advantage Plan and return to Original Medicare

During this period, you can't:

  • Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan
  • Join a separate Medicare drug plan if you have Original Medicare
  • Switch from one Medicare drug plan to another if you have Original Medicare

You can only make ONE change during this period, and any changes will be effective the first of the month after the plan receives your request.

To learn more, visit Medicare.gov or schedule an appointment with a MAPP Counselor at TCOA to discuss your coverage options by contacting (517) 887-1416.

Volunteer Spotlight

A photo of Mike and Linda

Meet Mike and Linda – this month’s Volunteer Spotlight!

Mike and Linda moved to Michigan a little over 5 years ago to be near their one and only daughter. While in Connecticut, since retiring they were active in giving back to the community. They cooked and served at St. Vincent de Paul’s soup kitchen in Middletown and cooked and served for Cromwell Senior Center as well as the Man of the Year banquet sponsored by Cromwell Knights of Columbus.

Since being in Michigan, Mike and Linda have helped out at Haslett Community Church food pantry. When they left that church for St. Luke’s, they became involved with cooking and serving at their Community Kitchen on the corner of Michigan and Pennsylvania. They are also active in their Coat Bank distribution. Linda wanted to do more, so they contacted Meals on Wheels and now serve the people at Grange Acres (a TCOA Congregate Senior Dining Site) on Fridays.

Mike and Linda share that the reason they do what they do is that “It gives us a good feeling to be able to help others who are less fortunate than us.”

For more information about volunteering please contact us at volunteer@tcoa.org or apply at tcoa.org/volunteer.
