What's Happening

Old North Church invites the community to the 2026 Lantern Service on Friday, April 17th, commemorating the historic ‘two if by sea’ lantern signal of 1775 and celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence.

This year’s keynote speaker is Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde, of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. Together, participants will reflect on faith, freedom, and democracy in our time.

As we continue to implement our diocesan strategic plan, the Bishop's Office is hiring for two important new positions!

Bishop Julia Reflects on Dignity and Community

Earlier this week, members of our diocese gathered for a screening of A Reckoning in Boston, hosted by the Racial Justice Commission.

In the conversation that followed, Bishop Julia reflected on dignity, community, and our shared responsibility to one another — themes that continue to shape our diocesan life.

Watch her reflections below and read more about the A Reckoning in Boston screening here.

Resources and Reminders

Lenten Resources

Alternate Liturgies for Holy Week

Bishop Julia has issued a pastoral letter introducing an alternate rite for Palm Sunday and highlighting an authorized alternate Good Friday liturgy. These resources are offered as part of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and sensitivity in Christian–Jewish relations.

We are grateful to the Rev'd Dr. Dan Joslyn-Siemiatkoski, Ecumenical and Interreligious Officer, for his leadership in developing these resources.

The Sermon on the Mount:On Earth as in Heaven, a devotional from the Communities for Spiritual Vitalities featuring voices from across the region, including Bishop Whitworth and other Province I bishops.

Tools for Public Witness

God's Justice:

Discerning Our Call to Action

Rooted in our shared values of courage, justice, and welcome, the Diocese of Massachusetts is focusing our public witness in four clear lanes: provide, protect, pray, and public witness. This framework offers guidance for congregations and individuals seeking faithful, practical ways to respond in this moment.

Explore the framework and learn how you can engage in this work.

Immigration Legal Emergency Fund

The Immigration Legal Emergency Fund is making a real difference in the lives of families across our diocese.

This winter, the Fund helped cover legal fees for a family navigating deportation proceedings and supported a single mother who was denied local assistance due to federal eligibility restrictions.

Your generosity makes it possible to provide legal representation, immigration applications, and other urgent support for members of our worshiping communities.

Immigration Resources for Congregations

For congregations seeking practical guidance, we encourage you to explore:

Check out resources from Episcopal City Mission, including the Emergent Action Network and ICE Protocols for churches.

The Episcopal Church also offers helpful tools, including the Episcopal Church Immigration Toolkit and Protesting Faithfully.

Diocesan Mental Health Resource

Care Solace is a confidential mental health care coordination service available to individuals and families across the Diocese of Massachusetts.

Through this diocesan partnership with Snug Harbor at St. John the Evangelist, Duxbury, Care Solace helps individuals connect with mental health providers for counseling, psychiatry, and substance use treatment, and offers support with insurance and finding available care.

This free resource provides easy referral tools and support for clergy and laypeople alike and is available during times of transition, stress, or whenever additional support is helpful.

The Diocesan Cycle of Prayer

The Diocesan Cycle of Prayer invites us into shared prayer across the Diocese of Massachusetts, naming parishes, ministries, and diocesan communities week by week throughout the church year.

Whether used in Sunday worship, personal devotion, or parish communications, this resource offers a simple way to stay connected in prayer with the wider diocesan community.

Apply for the Mustard Seed Project

The Mustard Seed Project is a new ministry in the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts cultivation regional, non-residential young adult formation and discipleship communities. These inclusive and creative communities will gather young adults to worship, spiritual formation, and leadership development rooted in God's justice, joy, and love.
