Three-Point Observations
Teachers need professional development that is individualized and promotes reflective, autonomous practice. This presentation explains the benefits of using techniques in Cognitive Coaching to meet with teachers through "3-Point Observations." These 3-Point Observations utilize Cognitive Coaching mind maps and paralanguage to guide teachers toward more meaningful professional development.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
  • uncover key research, which will illustrate the benefits of Cognitive Coaching for teachers’ professional development
  • learn a variety of mind maps and worksheets that coaches, administrators, or other teachers can use in coaching sessions with teachers
  • see how these mind maps and worksheets can be put into practice in their own teaching contexts

Presenter: Leanna Ross, ELS, Case Western University
Moderator: Cheryl Delk-Le Good, EnglishUSA
Price: $30 for non-members, complimentary for members
New Online Communication Platform
Starting this Spring, EnglishUSA will be implementing a new, more robust online community called EnglishUSA Engage. The platform is the same used by TESOL and NAFSA and will allow for you to see a digest of messages in your email inbox and respond to the group or individuals directly.

We will start with an Open Forum Community and then move toward special interest communities after a 6-8 month review.

Are you interested in being a beta-tester or volunteer facilitator for the Open Forum? Please email Cheryl Delk-Le Good ( execdirector@englishusa.org)
Spring Cleaning: Member Profiles
To streamline the implementation of the new online forums in Spring, please update your program and individual profiles. Currently up to 8 individuals can be attached to each program profile. Starting in Spring....we are changing this to: UNLIMITED!

All English language programs at a single site (IEP, EAP, pathway, summer, support courses, etc.) can be added to each 'parent' account.

However, ONLY individuals (not programs) will be migrated to the new online forums--be sure to update yours today!

Additional Membership Categories
Starting in Spring, EnglishUSA will be adding two additional options for programs and individuals to be members. Stand-alone pathway programs (single or multi-site) will be able to join EnglishUSA.

Pathway programs and IEPs on the same campus will be able to take advantage of the institution's membership.

We will also be offering a "Friends of EnglishUSA" category to allow for individuals between jobs, students, and independent consultants to engage!
New Associate Member!
EnglsihUSA welcomes duolingo english test as their newest Associate member! Many EnglishUSA members currently work with duolingo. If you have questions, please click on logo above or contact Ryan Munson at ryan@duolingo.com
EnglishUSA Pre-TESOL Convention Workshop
March 31, 1:00 - 4:00 pm
Fixing the Plane While Flying: Piloting ELPs through Changing Conditions
EnglishUSA is collaborating with TESOL to offer a pre-convention workshop: "Fixing the Plane While Flying: Piloting ELPs through ChanginAre you finding that your program’s systems and practices that previously worked like well-oiled machines are failing?

Today’s reality in international education requires post-secondary English language programs to be more entrepreneurial than ever before.  As traditional long-term intensive program enrollments decline, short-term and specialized programs are rising and adding stress to our administrative abilities as we adapt to ever-changing demands. Additionally, many programs are relying on student cohorts from partners and agents who often have unique admission or programmatic requirements that further stress existing systems.

This interactive workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss issues they are encountering as they strive to maintain or increase enrollment.g Conditions." This is an extended version of a webinar offered earlier this fall. Presenters include:
  • Alan Broomhead, Showa Institute-Boston, Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA
  • Cheryl Delk-Le Good, EnglishUSA (moderator), Marietta, Georgia, USA
  • Jennifer Phillips, WESLI, Madison, Wisconsin, USA

NOTE: You do not need to attend the entire TESOL Convention to attend this workshop.
