How do we decide what to start with? Take and Make Craft Kits are back - check the schedule for what's coming this month! A fun Winter Reading Program for ALL ages, with fantastic raffle prizes! We have two events for an E-Sports League! And that's not all - keep reading this newsletter because February is packed with fun things to do with your local library!

Take and Make Craft Kits are back for 2021!
For our craft lovers, we will continue to provide Take and Make Craft Kits for pick up! Kits are in limited supply, so we encourage crafters who have their hearts set on certain crafts to call ahead to reserve one at (920) 398-3434. All supplies are included.
A small fee for each craft kit covers the supply costs. Here's the schedule for February's crafts:

Winter Reading Program: Snow Much Fun!

Winter Reading Program 2021
Thanks to a generous donation by the Giddy Up Bar & Grill in Dalton for children’s activities along with other donated funds, the library is able to offer a Winter Reading program!! Similar to our Summer Reading program, the Winter program, “Snow Much Fun”, is raffle based and there are fun raffle prizes for all ages!!

Children & Teens:
Children & teens are invited to pick up reading tickets at the library and begin logging their reading. For every two hours read, a reading ticket will be completed and participants can enter that ticket into the raffle of his or her choice.

For adults, every book read earns a completed raffle ticket, which can be put towards the raffle prize of their choice.

Reading tickets can be picked up as early as February 1st.

Stop by on or after Monday, February 8th to see the fun assortment of prizes on display!

The program will culminate on Saturday, March 13 with prizes being picked on Monday, March 15. 

Thank you also to the Markesan Area Chamber of Commerce and Subway of Markesan for donating 16 6-inch Subway coupons for our reading program!!

E-Sports League!

Thursday, Feb. 11 and Thursday, Feb. 25 from 4:00 - 4:30 pm

Join our crew to play a few games of Among Us! Open to players ages 10 and up (younger can join with adult supervision).

Bring your own device or use one of ours (a limited number of these devices are available). You can also play from home using our Lobby Code. To get the Lobby Code, simply sign up for the event at the library or by calling us at (920) 398-3434 and let us know you will be playing from home. We will then call you the evening of the event with the code/codes.

We have room for twenty participants. Good digital citizenship is expected to be followed during this event.
Tea Party Kits to take home
starting Monday, Feb. 15
February is a lovely time to sit back and watch the snow fall with a hot beverage! A limited supply of Tea Party kits will be available at the library starting February 15th. These kits will contain everything you need to get you started on your own tea party: a cup, a napkin, an assortment of teas to try, and an info sheet on tea basics and party ideas. One kit per person, but patrons can pick up an extra kit for a loved one so you can share together. Supplies are limited and on a first come, first serve basis. A charming tea display will also be visible at the library this month.
Book lovers and movie lovers unite! The Theater Readers Book & Movie Club is for anyone who loves movies or books or both! We will meet on Monday, February 22 at 6:00 pm on Zoom. This month, pick a favorite pandemic related book, movie, or TV show and share your thoughts with us!

If you would like help choosing one, call to ask one of your friendly librarians at (920) 398-3434 - we would love to help you find a good selection!

Ongoing Programs
This winter, Story Time continues to be virtual. New videos are uploaded every week on our Facebook page. Young children get to go on an adventure through the alphabet this fall, followed by fun activities like crafts and songs. More experienced readers get to hear classic chapter books.

Online Reading Challenges
Try one of our 2 fun online challenges -- earn small prizes, enter raffles, and discover great resources along the way!

How to participate:
The challenges will take place completely online and readers can access them at Participants can also download the Beanstack app and search for Markesan Library to play

100 Books Before College (ages 12-19): 100 Books before College dares readers 12-19 yrs. to read 100 books before they graduate. Small incentives we be awarded and at every 10 books read, participants earn tickets to enter into a prize raffle of either a $25 Ted’s Piggly Wiggly Gift Card or $10 gas station cards. At 50 books read, participants earn a book to be purchased in their honor for the library’s collection by an author or genre of their choice. The library will put that participants name in recognition inside the book and the reader will get the first checkout. At 100 books read, participants will receive a book to keep. The raffle portion of this challenge will be drawn on June 1, 2021 and then renew with prizes for participants still working on their goals.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten (birth to 5 years old): This challenge is is a fun, exciting, and free way to start your child on the path to success! Any child ages birth to five years can participate. Each time you read 100 books, bring your reading record to the library to receive a special reward. At 1,000 books read, come celebrate at the library, see your child’s name placed on the 1,000 Book Wall of Fame, and receive a free book. Pick up a log sheet at the library, or download one by clicking here to get started!

Tax forms are now available
State and federal tax forms are now available at the library! We are open for our normal hours and services, but if you would prefer contactless service, we can bring out forms to you as a curbside pickup.

In compliance with the state mandate, face masks are required inside the library for those able to wear them. Right now, we have a limited supply of disposal masks available. If you don't have your own, simply ask at the desk!
