Special ANC 2B Meeting
Tuesday February 5
7:00 PM
Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies
1717 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Room 500
NOTE: all meeting attendees will be required to show photo ID to enter the building.

A special meeting ANC 2B will be held on Tuesday, February 5 th , primarily to consider several resolutions providing feedback to the DC Department of Transportation (DDOT) on proposed projects. ANC resolutions are given great weight by City agencies, but only contribute to the final decisions. Of particular concern to many residents of Dupont Circle is the plan to install protected bicycle lanes to provide a route from Florida Avenue to the National Mall, which was the subject of much debate at the January ANC meeting. DDOT is in the early planning stage for this project and is accepting feedback from individuals and organizations through February 13 th . Documents and the comment form for this project can be found here .

The ANC’s Transportation and Public Infrastructure Committee (TPI) has developed a draft resolution on the bike lane, the full text of which (subject to further modifications by ANC Commissioners) can be found here . While many bicycle commuters would prefer a full-length, two-way protected cycle track on 21 st Street, many residents and business owners in this neighborhood were against that proposal primarily due to the project’s impact on residential parking spaces and temporary loading/unloading. Thus, the TPI committee endeavored to find a solution that could be supported by the majority.

A summary of the ANC’s draft resolution is that it:
  • Supports the installation of a protected bicycle lane in western Dupont with further study focused on the 20th Street alternative within ANC 2B
  • Requests coordination among DDOT’s Connecticut Avenue Deckover and Streetscape project to connect a 20th Street protected bike lane with protected bike lanes to Columbia Road.
  • Resolves to work with FRESHFARM to determine mutually agreeable design and operational expectations for the protected bike lanes during Dupont Circle farmers market hours.
  • Requests that DDOT expedite the consultation and design timeline of the project, completing the installation by the end of 2019.

Meeting agenda and other information about ANC2B activity can be found here .
