Limoneira - One World of Citrus - Fruit Logistica Berlin
Limoneira's One World of Citrus marketing model provides our customers around the world with year-round citrus supply. Through partnerships and direct investments, we now market and sell our citrus under the Limoneira brand from Chile, Argentina, Mexico and South Africa providing our global food service and retail customers "one stop shopping" for their citrus needs.
We are excited by the opportunity to service increasing global demand with our high-quality citrus supported by our vertically integrated supply chain model and our commitment to sustainability and food safety.
Limoneira's Sales Team cultivates customer relationships on all continents including Europe, where some of the world's leading grocery retailers and food service operators are located. One of Europe's most important produce industry trade shows is Fruit Logistica which will be held in Berlin from February 8th through the 10th. Limoneira Management will be on hand at this important trade show meeting with existing and potential customers and explaining Limoneira's customer solutions.
John Carter, Limoneira's Director of Global Sales spoke with Marieke Hemmes - de Rijke from FreshPlaza.
In addition to the domestic market, Limoneira exports its citrus products to over 50 countries in Asia and increasingly throughout Europe and Russia. "Europe is an important target region," mentioned Carter. "Healthy trends show no signs of abating as the population in European countries increasingly matures. Today's global seniors are more active than previous generations and want to maintain their health and quality of life. The group of younger people, including millennials, is still the largest population group in Europe. They also desire healthy, natural products. Citrus is a super food choice for them."
Sustainability focus - Citrus Misfits™
Not only in Europe, but around the world, consumers are increasingly making buying decisions with sustainability in mind. Limoneira has investments in solar, water, mulch, integrated pest management projects and is a leader in farm-worker housing. One example is The Less Food Waste Movement that is gaining traction. "Our branded Citrus Misfits™ help address this concern," said Carter. "They are a playful reference to this particular type of produce having a little scarring from wind in the orchards. This perfectly good citrus would otherwise be discarded because of minor appearance considerations."
Sharing global knowledge with customers
As a global producer and seller, we have gained knowledge from markets everywhere and we are able to share that information with our customers. The Ph Balance trend which began in Asia, and has made inroads in the US is growing in Europe. Lemons play an important role as lemon water is a natural product. There are many healthy trends in citrus that we can share.

Staying Ahead in a Global Marketplace with Rich Eich
As the world continues to evolve, so must anyone who wants to get ahead. Blacksmiths were replaced by auto mechanics, and mechanics are now reinventing their own careers as cars become more computerized and vehicle repair becomes more technology-based. This past January, Rich Eich, founder of Eich Associated, a leadership and management consulting firm published "Staying ahead in a Global Marketplace" in the San Fernando Business Journal.
We highlight a few excerpts here.
"Thomas Friedman, the New York Times columnist and best-selling author, hit the nail on the head when he compared the difference between finding a job when he graduated from college, and what his daughters will face: "When my daughters graduate from college, they have to invent a job. ... And then, you may get lucky and get your first job, but you've got to invent, reinvent." In other words, innovation and adaptation are now essential for survival in a global economy.
Take, for example, Limoneira Co., a 124-year-old Santa Paula-based international grower of citrus, avocados and other crops. It has adapted and diversified to become a major global agribusiness and not merely a grower of farm products. With approximately 10,700 acres of rich agricultural land, real estate properties and water rights in California and Arizona, Limoneira has diversified its board of directors, too, as reflected with the recent election of Betsy Blanchard Chess, whose expertise goes well beyond agriculture. The USC alumna has received many awards in philanthropy, education and journalism. According to Limoneira's dynamic Chief Executive Harold Edwards, "we're excited to have her passion and expertise on our board."
"Workers today have to grow and adapt as well. Multiple sources, including the Bureau of Labor and Forrester Research, tell us that most people will average between 10 and 15 jobs during their lifetime and it is unlikely that someone will spend their entire career in the same field.
In exploring this further, a McKinsey Global institute study identified six sectors that are expected to account for most of the job growth going forward"
