This year is off to a running start, and United Way of Lincoln County is no exception! This past month, we have held our first board meeting, attended several community events, such as the Counselor Resource Fair for Lincoln County Schools and the MLK Breakfast, Youth Essay, and March, and assisted dozens of individuals in need of resources. In the office, we've taken over fifty calls from individuals in crisis and difficult situations and connected them to help. Based on 211 data, over 80 calls came in during January, and over 40% needed assistance with housing and shelter. This is a consistent need within the community, as is utility assistance, which was the second highest call focus.

Take the Plunge for Special Olympics!
Help Lincoln County Special Olympics by participating in the 2025 Polar Plunge! This event will take place at Sally's YMCA in Denver on February 22 at 11:00 AM. Participants can enjoy music, win prizes, and receive awards before the plunge actually begins! All money raised will go toward providing activities, training, and leadership opportunities to athletes with special needs in Lincoln County. Help Christian Ministries with its Souper Bowl Fundraiser! | Christian Ministry of Lincoln County is hosting its annual Souper Bowl Fundraiser right now! This fundraiser helps them serve the vulnerable members of our community. In fact, in 2024, over 37,000 meals were served, which is 10,000 more than the year before! Fundraisers like this one are instrumental in helping Christian Ministries complete the amazing work that they do for Lincoln County. | |
Save the Date for the 19th Annual Price is Right Event | |
As many locals know, the Lincoln County Child Advocacy Center's annual Price is Right for Fighting Child Abuse event is coming up! Happening on March 22nd at 5:30 at the James W Warren Citizen Center, this event is sure to be fun for the whole family. This will be an exciting and fun night where individuals can win big prices and make an even bigger impact in our community's safety!
This event is organized by the Lincoln County Child Advocacy Center, which is one of our partner agencies, and they do incredible work for the community, from providing victim advocacy, child counseling, educational courses, and so much more. Proceeds from this event will go to support their mission to prevent child abuse and provide intervention and treatment for affected children and families in Lincoln County.

Nominate Someone for the Governor's Service Award!
There is still time to nominate an individual, group, or business that has made an impact in our community! The Governor’s Volunteer Service Award highlights those that illustrate what community service means in North Carolina and recognizes individuals and groups who have dedicated themselves to making an impact within their communities and the state as a whole. Nominees for this prestigious award are known for their work and involvement in areas of impact, from disaster relief and environmental preservation to animal welfare and more, and nominating a person or group for this award is a chance to show your appreciation for their influence and actions.
To nominate a volunteer, complete the application form and include references who can support the nominee’s impact. United Way of Lincoln County, our county’s coordinator, will gather a community committee, which will review the nominations and then select our county’s 2025 winner, who will be recognized at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet in November. Spread the Love with the YMCA
Check out this fun way to celebrate the season of love with our YMCAs! From now until Valentine's Day, individuals can SPREAD THE LOVE by nominating a household or individual to receive a free year of YMCA membership.
Participating YMCA locations include Adrian J. Shuford Jr. YMCA, Hickory Foundation YMCA, Phifer Family YMCA, Lincoln County Family YMCA, and Sally’s YMCA.

Lincoln, Gaston, and Cleveland Counties are looking to hear from residents regarding current transportation processes. By filling out the survey, you will be able to help shape future transportation plans for the area. Black History Month
February is Black History Month, and we want to celebrate and commemorate black leaders across our community and country not just right now but always. Last month, we gathered to recognize Martin Luther King Jr., seen in the images below, by listening to the Youth Program and Essay Review! Casey Gilbert, Board Member | |
Since 2021, Casey Gilbert has worked diligently to help United Way of Lincoln County complete its mission, and we are incredibly grateful for her! She has served on our Events Committee for years, and with her help, our events, such as the Christmas Gala, have always turned out amazing. Beyond being an amazing asset to the UWLC, she also dedicates herself to her family and community!
After graduating Clemson, Casey earned her Master of Science in Nursing from George Washington University. She moved from Rock Hill, SC to Lincolnton, and has been here for fifteen years where she now works as the medical provider for the Lincoln County Child Advocacy Center as well as owns and operates Grace Vitality and Wellness Center. She has two young children, both of whom are involved in sports, and loves fitness herself. She can often be found working out at the Rock Fitness Center, and she is an avid football fan and Clemson supporter
We are so glad that she volunteers on the United Way of LC board, serving our community. Her attention to detail is unmatched, and her drive to help our mission succeed is something we are incredibly grateful for.
