Jorge Gojman Photography featured in LAA
February Program
Jorge Gojman’s passion for photography began at the age of nine with a Kodak Brownie and a fully equipped darkroom at home. Over the years, his work has included images in several genres such as landscape, architecture, wildlife, street, portrait, still life, travel, fine art, and lifestyle.
Born and raised in Mexico City and after a brief time at a boarding school in Switzerland and New York he obtained an Engineering degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Jorge met his childhood sweetheart Mary Ann during a summer vacation exploring Mayan ruins and Lacandon peoples living in the southern jungles of the Yucatan Peninsula. They married following graduation and Jorge began work in Toledo, Ohio as an engineer in plastics research and on factory floors across the US. He had decided not to rely on photography to make a living. During his career they lived in Spain and then Germany, where he was responsible for operations of several manufacturing companies in Germany, England, France, Italy, Spain and Serbia. Having lived and worked internationally allowed him the opportunity to explore unique photography subjects across Western Europe and the Americas.
Jorge and Mary Ann moved from Philadelphia to The Landings in 2000. In 2003, after giving up on trying to improve his golf game, they started working together in real estate for the Prudential and Berkshire Hathaway Savannah franchises. They retired from real estate three years ago to spend more time travelling and photographing new subjects.
He has served The Landings art community as President of the Landings Art Association 2003-2004 when he published the first LAA's newsletters containing color images. He also coordinated the production of the LAA's first website. Participating sporadically in many LAA exhibits from 2001 to 2015 including "Artist of the Month", his works were awarded several Blue Ribbons in Photography, a "Best of Show" and a "People's Choice" at the juried Spring Art Shows. He has exhibited his work at several of the LAA venues as well as in private galleries. His photos have been published in several magazines and book covers. Landings residents and visitors alike can see his six photo murals adorning the Plantation Ballroom walls since 2014. Many of his prints grace the walls in private collections.
Please join us for an exciting around-the-world photography presentation on
Tuesday, February 18 at 7:00
pm at the Presbyterian Church. Meet-and-Greet with refreshments at 6:30 pm. Non-members are most welcome.

The Landings Art Association
Announces its
February 2020 Art Exhibit
featuring Artists of the Month
Lydia Bishop
and
Diane Gannon
LAA Plantation Gallery
February 6 – March 3
Opening Reception Thursday, February 6, 2020
5:00 – 6:30 p.m.
The Landings Art Association will launch its February exhibit with a reception in The Plantation Club gallery on Thursday, February 6 at 5:00 p.m. Bring your friends, join the party, and be among the first to view the latest works of Lydia Bishop and Diane Gannon.
Finding it hard to believe it’s been eight years since she and her husband moved from Wisconsin, artist
Lydia Bishop
notes that “It’s the amazing art community here at The Landings, as well as in Savannah, that has made time fly so quickly.” Right from the start, she found the Landings Art Association to be welcoming and encouraging, offering wonderful opportunities for growth and connection with other artists who, according to Lydia, shared her “life-long passion for both looking at fine art and messing around with paint.”
Growing up in western Pennsylvania, Lydia was encouraged to draw and paint, but when it came time to pursue a career, she chose a path which seemed more practical. She attended the University of Michigan and earned a degree in nursing. After twenty years in various health care positions, she applied her problem-solving skills to the residential real estate profession in Milwaukee. Retirement has afforded her the luxury of time to see what she could accomplish if she focused on learning to make art.
Lydia considers herself a self-taught artist with a passion for painting. As she explains, “Painting is a process that starts with a concept and takes you wherever your imagination leads. Sometimes you know exactly how it will end, and sometimes you are surprised. My favorite works are not representational, but reflect thoughts, ideas or emotions.
Lydia paints with both oils and acrylics, has experimented with “found object” collage and most recently encaustics, however, this show will be collection of her acrylic paintings based on contrast, composition and color. Lydia has been the fortunate recipient of several awards in various Landings Art Association shows. She exhibits regularly at Plantation Club Gallery and Merrill Lynch Gallery. You can contact Lydia at 414-659-6498 or lydiabish@gmail.com.
Originally from Rochester, NY, photographer
Diane Gannon
spent 34 years with Eastman Kodak before retiring to Savannah with her husband Dave. An avid traveler, her passion for wildlife photography was sparked during her first trip to Africa. Four cameras and many trips later, Diane now focuses mainly on photographing birds.
Locally, she spends time patiently searching the Savannah Wild Life Refuge, Skidaway Island State Park and the Sparrow Fields at The Landings for her next subjects.
Diane prints her work on notecards and gallery wraps (photographs printed on canvas), and she has created unique 3-D collages in which she uses multiple images layered within a frame. For this particular show, however, Diane has chosen to focus on small photographs, featuring mostly birds, printed on canvas. “People are always saying “I love your photographs, but I have no more room on my walls.” That got me thinking – there’s always room in a bathroom, so I’ve started doing what I call “Bathroom Art.” It’s my photographs all done in small sizes (4” x 4”, 6” x 6”, etc.) that can fit anywhere: on a shelf, hung in a small space or on a window sill.”
All proceeds from the sale of Diane’s notecards are donated to the Social Apostolate, a small ministry in downtown Savannah whose mission is to care for and empower poor, homeless, disabled and at-risk people within the community. Diane can be reached at 912-659-0832 or at digannon@comcast.net.
Don’t miss the Opening Reception
Thursday, February 6 from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.
(Public Welcome/Refreshments Available)

Gail Quinn
March and April
Originally from the New York city area, Gail and her husband Jim transferred to several major cities throughout the country before retiring first to Kiawah Island and then Savannah. Having had a strong interest in drawing at an early age, Gail managed to find time to study art while building a nursing career and raising two sons, taking art classes in Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and Boston.
When she first moved to the Landings in 2002 she volunteered at the Wesley Community Center introducing the children to art and painting a large mural in their outdoor area.
She has recently given private art lessons to students applying to the Savannah Arts Academy helping them complete their portfolios. Gail spends her summers in the state of Washington where her sons live with their families. She has been judged in to Southwest Washington Watercolor Society, an organization in which she continues to be active. One of her paintings was featured on the cover of the Vancouver Washington phone directory, and many of her paintings can be found in homes throughout the Landings and across the U.S.
As artist of the month in December 2019, her jewelry creations and her small acrylic and encaustic paintings were on display in the glass case at the Plantation Club.
