February 2023 Edition

This February we have many events and opportunities for our Bigs and Littles. Read below about the upcoming plans and program highlights for the month!

Black History Month

February is Black History Month, an observance that turns our attention to the contributions of African Americans to the United States. This month honors all Black people from all periods of US history.

Since 1976, every American president has designated February as Black History Month and endorsed a specific theme. The theme of Black History Month 2023, Black Resistance, explores how African Americans have resisted historic and ongoing oppression.

REACH Recap & Highlights

School-based Highlight

Check out some of our School-based locations working on holiday cookie decorating! Our Bigs and Littles have been bringing out their creative side to create some beautiful treats.



Community-based Highlight

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Big Brothers Big Sisters hosted our annual REACH Keep the Dream Alive art workshop! Community-based matches painted

their own canvas with assistance from expert art instructor, Francheska Gomez

from Karaya Art LLC. Their beautiful paintings all focused on visually

portraying who they are as individuals.

Mentor2.0 Highlight

The mentor2.0 team would like to highlight a recent event at Tenor High School! Mentors and mentees spent the night playing a variety of games, working

on schoolwork, and, of course, enjoyed a few snacks.

Recruitment

We successfully reached our National Mentoring Month goal! Our multiple recruitment events, social media engagement, and community partners helped

make our goal attainable. Thank you to everyone spreading the word about BBBS!

Third Space Brewing Event

Pints with a Purpose at Third Space Brewing was a great turnout! BBBS supporters celebrated the launch of our collaboration West Coast IPA BIG Beer and enjoyed delicious food from Tot’s On The Street food truck.

Stop in to Third Space Brewing and try our BIG Beer (available until March 31) to support one-to-one youth mentoring relationships within the community!

Our partnership with Children’s Wisconsin continues to grow and we encourage you to learn more and attend their upcoming workshops! Triple P is hosting virtual and in person events through May!
