Statement on COVID-19 & the 17th Annual Congress

As leaders and specialists caring for patients and communities, you know first-hand the challenges that the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) is having in your region as well as others around the world. At this time we wanted to share with you a statement from the ISDE 2020 Congress team regarding the 17th Annual Congress in Toronto, Canada, from September 21 to 23, 2020, which is still proceeding as planned.

A dedicated page has been setup for this statement and any future updates at isde.2020.com/isde-statement which you can check at any time. In addition, we will provide you with updates in the monthly Esophagram, if and when the need arises.

Our thoughts are with those in affected areas at this time and in the days ahead.

Circulating human papillomavirus DNA detection in Barrett's dysplasia and esophageal adenocarcinoma

There is evidence to suggest that human papillomaviruses (HPV) are associated with Barrett's dysplasia and esophageal adenocarcinoma. In other HPV-linked cancers such as cervical and oropharyngeal cancer, circulating HPV DNA is a potential biomarker to assist in tumor diagnosis and management. This study aimed to determine whether circulating HPV DNA was detectable in patients with Barrett's dysplasia and esophageal adenocarcinoma, and if so, whether there is any correlation with esophageal tissue HPV status.

After the performance of the first peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) in 2008, POEM has now spread worldwide and has arguably become a first-line treatment option for achalasia. Recently, there is increasing debate regarding post-POEM gastroesophageal reflux (GER) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The DOTE Editors are inviting submissions for the top original research manuscript by a junior faculty or trainee author accepted for publication in 2019. The winner will receive registration, accommodation and a travel grant to attend ISDE 2020 in Toronto. Deadline for submissions is April 1, 2020 and additional information can be found in the Letter of Invitation .
