Q4 report

In its Fourth Quarter 2021 Report to Shareholders, Hyperion Bancshares, Inc., Hyperion Bank’s holding company, noted continuing growth.
“With the help of eight new employees, 2021 was a very good year for Hyperion Bancshares,” says the bank’s President & COO, Lou DeCesare. “With the creation of our holding company and the well-received subordinated debt offering, we began to put additional capital to work, and we have the ability to continue to grow the bank.”
DeCesare reported that Hyperion’s asset base grew by 15%, with its loan portfolio increasing by 12% and its deposit base expanding by 16%. The double-digit balance sheet growth resulted in a 12% increase in interest income; non-interest income grew by 34%.

Black History Month
African Americans in Banking
|

February is Black History Month, so it is fitting to share a few of the many milestones related to African Americans in banking:
In 1879 Blanche Kelso Bruce was the first African American on U.S. Currency when he was Register of the Treasury. (He was born into slavery and became the first African American to serve a full term in the U.S. Senate, in addition to his Treasury service.)
Capital Savings Bank was the first bank founded (1888) by Black Americans. (Some say this honor belonged to Freedman’s Savings & Trust, which preceded CSB.)
Major R.R. Wright founded the first professional organization of African Americans in finance in 1927, the Negro Bankers Association. Wright also founded what would later become today’s Savannah State University.

Hyperion’s Charlie Crawford recently moderated “Partnering with Fintechs, A Virtual Fireside Chat,” for the Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers. The presentation featured community banking leaders John Coleman of Tioga Franklin Savings Bank and Glenn Bolstad of Vikar Technologies. Charlie serves on the board of PACB, currently as Secretary & Treasurer.

John Jinks, Jr.
We want to pause and share news of the death of John Jinks Jr., father of Hyperion Director Jill Jinks, and himself a shareholder, customer and stalwart supporter of the bank and its people. A native Atlantan, John was a UGA grad and the founder of The Insurance House Inc. and a leader in the insurance industry and Georgia business community. Our thoughts are with Jill and her family during this tough time.
