Let’s continue to help each other by taking the basic precautions. As such, we encourage everyone to please wear a mask whenever they have mild cold-like symptoms. If you are feeling unwell, please call us and we will be pleased to switch to a Zoom lesson or we can send you a video lesson.
We ask you to please, protect yourself and others by:
· Washing your hands
· Wearing a mask
· Sanitizing hands when entering the studio
· Covering your coughs and sneezes
· Practicing social distancing when possible
· Staying home when feeling unwell.

With the wet, snowy weather upon us, please remember to remove soiled footwear and leave it at the front door. Thank you for helping to keep our studio as clean as possible during the mucky seasons! | |

Video Showcase
As a music school that encourages performances and sees a definite value in performing, we try to offer a variety of opportunities throughout the year. As an alternative to the Sherwood Park Music Festival, we are looking forward to our upcoming 6th annual Crescendo Video Showcase. Showcase provides an opportunity for students to sign up and perform a prepared piece in the comfort of our studio. We will video this performance, and the video will be sent on to our highly decorated adjudicators to receive comprehensive and valuable feedback. Our top video showcase performances will be awarded and recognized at our year-end recitals. We invite you to perform one or more songs at our April Video Showcase. Any style of music is welcome and we provide lots of flexibility regarding the types of performance and music that is presented!

Contest!
Tree of Love
To celebrate Valentine's Day we have a special, heart-warming contest this month!
To enter:
Starting February 1, there will be hearts available at the front desk. Please take one heart and create an acrostic, a haiku (any kind of poem is fine), or draw us a picture about music on it.
Acrostic: Write a short poem where the letters of a word are used as the first letter of another word to represent your love for music.
Haiku: This poem is made of three lines where the first line is five syllables, the second is made up of seven syllables and the third line is five syllables. But ANY style/short poem is welcome!
Picture: Draw us a picture that represents your love for music.
Once finished, please make sure your FIRST AND LAST NAME and AGE are written on the back, then put your heart in the mailbox on the table so "Cupid can place it on the Tree of Music Love"!
On February 18, Cupid will pick 3 hearts from our draw. The winner can choose from a Crescendo hoodie, t-shirt, water bottle, or to-go coffee cup.
This contest will run from February 1st to February 18th!

BENEFITS OF THE RCM CURRICULUM
“A student is almost always motivated to practice when he leaves his lessons feeling capable.” – Frances Clark, Pianist
If you are a music learner, you have probably heard of the “RCM” curriculum. RCM stands for The Royal Conservatory of Music, which is a Canadian-based curriculum that has ‘grades’ of music learning. The Royal Conservatory of Music has levelled curriculum for a variety of instruments, including voice, piano, guitar, and more! A huge benefit of the RCM curriculum is that it also has exams available for each grade of music, and in some cases, it can even count for high school credit. At Crescendo Music Studios we highly recommend taking a music exam every year, or at least every second year! There are so many benefits to music examinations, and we will be talking about them below.
-
Music Examinations Provide Progress Benchmarks. It is incredibly important for both the student and their parents to see progress when they are learning an instrument.
-
RCM Exams Count for Credits in School! The Royal Conservatory of Music is recognized as a private music study that may be eligible for high school credits!
-
More information can be found on the RCM Website -- and piano isn’t the only eligible instrument! Voice, Guitar, Violin, and a multitude of brass instruments are also eligible for extra credits.
-
We Believe in Holistic Music Learning! At Crescendo, we strive to teach our students a variety of skills that help them to become more well-rounded musicians.
-
What if I Don’t Learn Out of the RCM Books? No problem! At Crescendo Music Studios we have designed Crescendo exams that can be taken by any student, any instrument, and any repertoire.
