The shopping has begun! Amanda, Michael and I are in Tucson already and will be here for 3 more weeks. Wait until you see the fabulous stones in the new jewelry Michael picked out today. And look at the breath taking size and beauty of some of the largest amethyst in the world. We probably won't be able to bring home something quite this large, but I promise we've selected a vast assortment of mineral pieces that parallel in quality despite being a bit smaller that will hopefully fit in your budget a little better.
I wanted to quickly mention that we are having our biannual Jewelry Bazaar this weekend featuring all local artists and their creations. This was such a success last year that we decided to do two Bazaar's this year and the booths sold out fast. So, those artisans who missed the opportunity to be in this year's first event, be sure to register now for our fall Bazaar by e-mailing community@ntrocks.com. We are hoping to expand the number of booths in the fall to better accommodate both our customers and the vendors.

This month we will be recognizing President's Day, The Chinese New Year beginning (check our social media for store activities), and my favorite VALENTINE'S DAY!!! I think any day that promotes loving energy should be honored and celebrated in abundance. When investigating just how such a holiday came to be, I learned that the first valentine was actually sent by Saint Valentine in the form of a letter in the year 270, right before he was executed on February 14th. It took about 200 more years before a famous poet in the Middle Ages helped attribute a romantic context to the day.

Regardless of which type you look at though, all forms of Love require a subject, namely one’s self or someone/something else. Amethyst makes the perfect birthstone for the month of February as it is believed that Saint Valentine wore an amethyst ring carved to depict Cupid. As one of the most beautiful gems with a royal purple hue as well as one of the most durable gems with a Mohs hardness of 7 and no cleavage planes, this stone truly signifies a love that will last.

Despite being named in ancient Greece, this stone was sacred to the Egyptians, and today is most commonly found in Brazil and Uruguay. Amethyst has a rich history and has thus been attributed countless metaphysical properties. In some cultures Amethyst is worn to ward off evil, while in others it is kept to attract true love. In modern times Amethyst has been carried as a talisman to fight addictions such as smoking and alcoholism. This gem may also be kept by the bedside to promote pleasant dreams, dispel nightmares and incite lucid dreaming. Regardless of the mode, Amethyst is most commonly considered a stone of spiritual and emotional healing, allowing individuals to open themselves to receiving Spirit and reconnecting with Oneness.
