Some of our 2023 milestones

"Our intake department quadrupled and the largest settlements in the firm's history took place in 2023"

- Attorney Howard Ankin

When I look back on 2023 I feel both grateful and proud. I’m grateful to be in my 31st year of practicing law surrounded by the best attorneys and staff in Chicago. I’m also proud of a number of “firsts” that took place last year.

2023 saw tremendous growth. In order to respond to an increase in call call volume, we increased our intake department from 4 to 12. This expansion resulted in the need to build out a third floor at our 10 North Dearborn offices. The third floor is also the new home of our expanded medical malpractice department. Attorney Jeff Schulkin, one of three attorneys hired in 2023, oversees this practice area.

In August, the firm received its 1000th Google Review and our total staff count reached 85. We also increased the size of our internal marketing department and optimized Litify, the Salesforce platform our staff uses every day. And finally, the largest settlements in Ankin Law’s 27-year history took place in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

There is another aspect of my law practice that remains steadfast, regardless of growth. Clients don’t talk to me about the size of their settlement. They talk about how they were treated. They tell me about how their questions were answered or how the attorneys and legal assistants kept them up to date and responded to their concerns. It’s another reason why our tagline, "Injury law made personal," resonates with the people we assist and will continue to help today, tomorrow, and for years to come.

Legal Assistant Maria Garcia

"When we hire

someone, we're not just looking at the

position, we're looking at what the potential is for them in the future."

- Maria Garcia

In a firm that prides itself on growth for the better, Maria Garcia is a perfect example of how someone can enhance their personal and professional life at Ankin Law.

Joining the firm as a receptionist in 2019, Maria Garcia moved her way up to be a legal assistant over the past few years, working with attorney John Powers. “When we hire someone, we’re not just looking at the position, we're looking at what the potential is for them in the future,” said Garcia.

It’s one that Maria is carving out for herself at the firm as she aids Powers in helping clients to a positive result in their case. Garcia is planning to attend law school in the future, which could pave the way for her to take another step forward at Ankin Law.

“It makes me feel rest assured that we make impacts on people’s lives,” said Garcia. “It definitely put into perspective that what we do every day matters. It’s a life situation. It’s a quality of life for our clients.”
