GALA GoFundMe Fundraiser
|
GALA GoFundMe
$5,000 Goal
GALA has secured a permanent space at 135 Front Street in Winchendon for the benefit of the residents of the cities and towns of north central Massachusetts.
We completed our first phase of transforming this antique post and beam barn into our new art gallery and meeting space. In order to open the gallery in 2017, we need to raise funds to purchase the remaining elements including a gallery track lighting system, epoxy paint for the flooring, sound equipment for music performances, and artwork hanging supplies.
We are thankful to all the members, area businesses, and neighbors who have already donated their time and services to getting our art gallery this far.
See a photo gallery of our renovation project. Spread the word and help us reach this goal for 2017!

GALA Urgently Needs Your Support for Arts & Culture in Central New England!
We ha
ve been searching for the right place to call our home, and we have finally found it for YOU. A place where we can share our passion for all of the arts. The Winchendon History and Cultural Center purchased the house next door to their museum and has invited GALA to bring the talent of our membership to Winchendon at this location at 135 Front Street. Our office and Gift Shop will be in the main house, but there is also a carriage house on the property with a tall ceiling and large wooden barn beams. We will be renovating this carriage house to be used for art exhibits and other activities. Until this new space is ready, we will have use of a few rooms inside the main house. Besides art exhibits, we will offer classes, coffeehouses, music jams, poetry events, critiques and much more! We plan to continue holding our Annual Spring Show and other events in the Greater Gardner area. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial partnership with the Winchendon History and Cultural Center.
In order for our new Arts Gallery to be successful, we urgently need you to donate and volunteer.

Ribbons and Berries by Liz Winchester-Larson
|
Liz Winchester-Larson will have a solo exhibition "For the Love of Detail" at The Bagel Mill 145 Grove Street Extension, Peterborough, NH now through February 28, 2017. Focused primarily on the medium of colored pencil, Liz achieves rich color and intricate detail in her work. Her studio is filled with the objects and plants that inspire her still-life paintings. She was introduced to the medium of colored pencil years ago for precise architectural rendering with her studies in the Interior and Environmental Design BFA program at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. Now enjoying still-life subjects, Liz uses professional grade colored pencils rated light-fast by the Colored Pencil Society of America and fine art drawing papers. Inspired by the 17 th Century Dutch still-life masters to Victorian era theorem paintings, she creates elaborate still-life arrangements that are an environment of form, color, and light.
During her exhibition "For the Love of Detail" artist Liz Winchester-Larson will present a colored pencil demonstration on Thursdays, January 26, from 2 - 3:30 pm, February 9, from 2 - 3:30 pm, and again on Thursday February 23, from 2 - 3:30 pm at The Bagel Mill, 145 Grove Street Extension, Peterborough, NH. In this informal drop-in event, Liz will work directly from a small still-life arrangement to demonstrate how she applies many layers of colored pencil, building up the transition of linear marks into the illusion of solid form. With this technique, she achieves rich color and intricate detail in her work. Patience is a virtue in the colored pencil medium.
Colored Pencil Demonstrations
Thursday, January 26, from 2 - 3:30 pm
Thursday, February 9, from 2 - 3:30 pm and
Thursday, February 23, from 2 - 3:30 pm
The exhibition may be viewed at The Bagel Mill 145 Grove Street Extension, Peterborough, NH during regular hours: Monday - Friday, 6 am - 4 pm, Saturday, 6 am - 3 pm, and Sunday, 7 am - 1:30 pm

Templeton, MA
|
David Wyman's book of poems,
Proletariat Sunrise, was published by Kelsay Books in January 2017. Wyman is from Templeton, MA and teaches composition and American Literature at Mount Wachusett Community College. 'With its unflinching insights, flashes of humor and intense startling imagery,
Proletariat Sunrise is a lament for all that's been lost in America's virtual. slogan-ridden landscape but also a celebration of moments of irreducible beauty and even a call to action of sorts,' writes poet Lori Lamothe.
Proletariat Sunrise is his first collection of poems; it is available on Amazon.

Flag by Samantha Wood |
"What Does Your Flag Look Like?" presents artistic re-invention and de-construction of America's national symbol, liberating it from an allegiance of stars and stripes into three dimensional lines of paint, wire, cloth, wood, metal and more. Whether pulling it apart or stitching it together, artists Nina Rossi, Samantha Wood and others consider how the symbolic language of the flag can be used to communicate who we are in the year 2017. Opens February 2 through March 25 at Nina's Nook, 125A Avenue A Turners Falls.

|
Come see Exploded View at the Beals Memorial Library in Winchendon, 50 Pleasant St., on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m.
Exploded View is a group of artists based in Western Massachusetts whose work combines spoken word and visual art in collaborative performance. Their current work includes the themes of love, violence, loss, place, the power of finding voice, and the power of collaboration itself. Varied media include poetry, sculpture, textile arts, film, collage, music and all of these become the set for the performance.
After, the group offers a talk-back - an opportunity for the audience to engage in discussion ranging from the subject matter of the art to how we work together.
The name Exploded View was inspired by engineering diagrams, such as you see in auto repair guides, that show all of the working parts of a machine and how they fit together.
