ASC Members' Outing - Join Us

Winter Birds of Acadia

Thursday, March 16th from 10:00 a.m. to noon

Mount Desert Island

Seth Benz, Bird Ecology Director at Schoodic Institute, will lead a two-hour Winter Birds of Acadia outing on MDI for ASC members this March. Explore and learn about the winter birds on Mount Desert Island. Watch for common eiders, black-capped chickadees, buffleheads, eagles, downy woodpeckers, harlequin ducks, and more while learning about their habitats, migration patterns, and bird phenology.

Volunteers Tech Hosts Needed

We're looking for a few members who are interested in assisting with Zoom and hybrid classes and events so that our instructors and presenters can focus on their content and engage with participants. Duties might include hosting a Zoom meeting, monitoring the Zoom chat room, or setting up equipment such as projectors and our Meeting Owl.

Training will be provided and volunteers will receive a free class of their choice!

ASC Weather Cancellation Policy

“Acadia Senior College cancels events and classes when the MDI schools close for snow or weather events. When a delay occurs, ASC also cancels events or classes that start within the delay time period.”

This means that if there is a two-hour school delay, ASC morning classes will be cancelled, but afternoon classes will still be held unless otherwise instructed. Please visit midrss.net for school announcements.



Updated ASC COVID Guidelines

At its January 2023 meeting, the ASC Board voted to update the COVID policy as follows:

• Members are advised to monitor the Federal and Maine Centers for Disease Control websites for information and guidance on avoiding COVID and managing outbreaks and to make informed individual decisions on masking, vaccination, and risk level.
• When a class or event venue has specific COVID policies, ASC will comply with those policies, including mask requirements.
• This revised policy applies to Spring 2023 classes as well as 2023 events such as Food for Thought and Coffee Clash.
