Committee Opportunities
Reminder: Open Call for Committee Applicants
By April 1, 2024, COTO will reduce the overlap in membership between the Board and all our statutory committees. This means we have new openings across our committees.

Occupational therapists who are interested can apply to be a Professional Committee Appointee. Professional Committee Appointees are registered occupational therapists who serve on our committees and are not a member of the Board.

The deadline to apply is March 15, 2024.
Health Privacy Breach Report
Submit your 2023 report by March 1
Reminder to health information custodians: the deadline to submit your 2023 health privacy breaches report to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) is Friday, March 1, 2024. Learn more on the IPC website.

By law, health information custodians that have experienced at least one health privacy breach during 2023 are required to report through the IPC’s online submission website.

Quality Assurance Update
Your feedback on the competency assessment
Have you been curious about the competency assessment?

The competency assessment is an opportunity to reflect on your practice and demonstrate how you incorporate the Competencies for Occupational Therapists in Canada and Standards of Practice into your daily work.

Forty-five registrants recently completed the competency assessmentread what some of them had to say about their experience.

Thank you to all registrants who completed their assessments!
Applied Behaviour Analysis
Intercollege collaborative resource on ABA
In preparation for the regulation of applied behaviour analysis (ABA), the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) worked with COTO and four other Colleges to develop joint communication for registrants.

This material is for registrants who use ABA in their practice and who may be affected by the decision to create a protected title for ABA practitioners. See the ABA Collaborative FAQ for the Psychology and Applied Behaviour Analysis Act, 2021. The Act comes into effect on July 1, 2024

Insights from Investigations
Data on concerns and outcomes (June 1 to December 1, 2023)
Understanding the types of concerns the College receives and investigates is of interest to both registrants and the public.

There are two main types of investigations:
  • complaints from members of the public (usually clients or their families)
  • reports from other sources (typically employers or other occupational therapists)

We have provided an overview of June–December 2023 concerns and outcomes. These concerns are connected to the relevant occupational therapy competency.

Complaints data and trending information helps inform the development of College resources to support the delivery of safe, ethical services.
