March Monthly Dinner On Schedule!
|
No Host Bar: 5:30 p.m., Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m.
Vietnam combat veterans Denny Johansen and George Marrett will talk about the present DPAA (Defense POW/MIA Account Agency), formerly JTF-FA (Joint Task Force-Full Accounting), office in Hawaii tasked with finding and identifying military service members lost in all wars.
Denny recently visited the recovery facility and will discuss their status and the cases they have on review.
George will talk about Bat Masterson and Clint Ward both A-1 Skyraider pilots who he flew with him in the 602nd Fighter Squadron in 1968-1969. Both pilots crashed in Vietnam and Marrett will discuss the effort the US Air Force made to find their crash sites, identify aircraft parts and human remains. Finally Marrett will discuss the memorial service held for Ward 50 years after his loss.
We will be doing something different starting at the next dinner meeting. Thanks to some generous donors, we will be having a different raffle item each month! Raffle items could be valued up to $300! You need to be there to win! Make your reservations now, before we fill up!
Dinner is catered and reservations are a must! $20/pp. Please go online (click here) or call 805 296-1935 prior to 6 p.m. PST Monday, March 1st.

Volunteer Needed!
Visitors to the museum have been steadily increasing! This means we can use a few extra set of hands onboard if you have any time to volunteer. In addition, Gift Shop Manager, Toni Moore, will be taking a much needed vacation coming up next month and we could use some help filling her shoes (it's ok, bring your own shoes). We can use additional help in the gift shop. Requirements would be the ability to smile, multi-task, minimal computer skills, be hospitable and be 'kid friendly".
Shifts run 10a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.. Experience not required, but we can train!
If you have any free time and would share your talents or experiences with the museum, there are plenty of opportunities that await you! Come on down and let's talk or click here to send us a note about getting involved.

The Gooney Bird Group is now offering flights on the C-47B, Betsy's Biscuit Bomber, on the 3d Saturday of each month. Betsy is home ported at the Estrella Warbirds Museum. During the past several months, literally millions of people have abandoned or cancelled their Facebook accounts due to extreme censorship. As a museum, we remain apolitical, however, we have seen dramatic decreases in the number of people that follow Estrella Warbirds Museum on Facebook. Our goal is to keep you informed of new events, activities, displays, etc., at Estrella Warbirds Museum. Please help us out and answer our short survey. We want to keep you up to date in ways that are convenient to you!

New from Woodland Auto Display
|
|
The 1956 Continental Mk II is now at home in the Woodland Auto Display. Click on picture for more information.
From Richard Woodland: Claudia and I are currently working on a wall in the NASCAR room at the Woodland Auto Display which will be dedicated to the West Coast Stock Car/Motorsports Hall of Fame. This will be a tribute to those inductees who pioneered the sport on the west coast up to and including more recent stars in the sport.
Mike Curb, of Curb Records, has donated the beautiful wall plaques with the inductees names and year inducted. The trophy cases will house numerous awards and trophies. In addition, we have numerous vintage large black and white photos reflecting the early days of stock car racing. I believe our visitors will find this display to be very interesting.
As far as projects go, we are putting the finishing touches on Claudia's 1963 Corvette "split window". The 1951 Singer restoration is coming along and almost ready for paint. The 1951 Austin fire truck is also receiving attention. There is also a show quality ramp truck nearing completion. It will be used for transporting cars to various events plus it will be displayed periodically. Regards, Dick Woodland
