I can't tell you how great it was to see all of you at last months membership meeting. You could feel the renewed spirit of everyone who attended the meeting. I also want to acknowledge the number of visitors and those who joined MASWA for the first time, and not the last, I hope!
The one thing February means to me is winter is more than half over. It is a downhill slide from here on. This has been an extremely cold winter and I, for one, am ready to feel the warmth of the sun on my face and the warm breezes of spring. I also look forward to the great speakers at our monthly meetings.
Karen Mandile, Program Chair for MASWA, has done a great job putting together the programs and sponsors for our monthly meetings. She always pulls together a nice mix of topics and speakers, as well as, great sponsors who provide our much needed afternoon treats to give us that boost of energy mid-afternoon. Keep up the good work, Karen!
As you all know, May 10th is the MASWA Spring Luncheon and Annual Meeting. It is at this meeting we will be introduced to the new Board of Directors and saying thank-you and goodbye to the outgoing Board. With this in mind, I urge all of you to consider serving MASWA by becoming a board member. There are many openings coming up and this would give you a chance to take MASWA in to the future. I am a firm believer in the power of change and I know the new Board will take us on the right path into that future as MASWA continues to grow and reach the seniors in our community.
I am asking all of you to consider a charity for our donation/s this year. Last year the whole donation of $3000.00 went to Little Brothers, Friends of the Elderly. This organization relies on it's volunteers to provide friendship to seniors in the Minneapolis area, helping to alleviate the isolation so many seniors experience. We are looking for suggestions of "not for profit" organizations, serving seniors in the Minneapolis area. If you have someone in mind, please let me or another board member know so we can put them in the running for this year's donation. This will be one of the main topics for our board meetings the next couple of months. I'll look forward to hearing from you.
