What inspired you to start your fitness journey, and how did you find your way to BodyUniversity?
Growing up as a competitive gymnast, I always had an outlet—but my entire identity revolved around gymnastics, even through college. When that chapter ended, I had to figure out life without it. I tried a lot of different gyms, programs, and workouts, but something was always missing. Most of the time, it was the lack of community, the type of workouts, or trainers who didn’t keep me engaged.
I found Francine on Instagram and followed (okay, stalked) BU workouts for a while before finally reaching out after I had my daughter. I started with 1:1 sessions to get a feel for it and eventually transitioned into group training.
What do you enjoy most about working out at Body University?
Francine. She sets the tone and intention at BU. She doesn’t just focus on what you can physically see—she takes the time to understand your habits, nutrition, mental well-being, and what’s going on in your life at that moment.
This is the first place I’ve ever been where I don’t feel judged for how I look or what I can (or can’t) do. Francine embraces the beauty and strength of all body types and ages, which makes me feel safe to push myself out of my comfort zone. BU has become my safe haven—a place that’s just for me, where I can leave everything else at the door.
I also love the community and the friendships I’ve made. From Carol’s restaurant recommendations to Francine’s picks for workout clothes and healthy recipes, to Sam’s book suggestions—the list goes on.
What fitness achievements are you most proud of since joining Body University?
My strength gains and muscle growth year after year. I’ve gone from 15 lb dumbbell rows to 40 lbs and from using no weight on the Booty Builder to now adding 90 lbs—all thanks to Francine’s not-so-sneaky weight increases and the encouragement from my gym friends. I’ve lifted more than I ever thought possible.
What advice would you give to other women who may be hesitant to start weight training or prioritize their fitness?
Start small, jump all in, just move your body. Walk, dance, lift, whatever works for you. Celebrate the small wins, for example mine was getting in the car and driving to workout this week. Showing up can be the hardest part. Prioritizing my fitness is a form of self-care and a way to show my daughter women are strong. I want to be able to run and play with her for years to come. And let’s be honest, beat her while I can. If you're looking for a supportive and effective fitness community, I highly recommend checking out Body University. I have and will literally follow Francine wherever she is, in the not creepy way. 👀
We like balance here at B.U. So what's your ultimate cheat meal or guilty pleasure treat?
It will be forever NY style pizza and ice cream, unless I'm baking...then cinnamon rolls.
