NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP SERIES

The Nutrient Management Team is holding three Nutrient Management Credit Workshops for farms in the Nutrient Management Credit Program. The workshops will provide updates on nutrient management planning and the new credit rate structure. Everyone involved in managing and handling manure on the farm is encouraged to attend. Credit Agreement Forms will be distributed for your signature. 


Attendance at one of these meetings is mandatory to maintain eligibility for the NM Credit Program. NM Credit Workshops are offered only once every three years.

MAPLE SEASON IS HERE!

With the unusually warm temperatures, maple season in New York has come early. MyWoodlot.com has a fountain of information if you want to try your hand at making it yourself.


In order to tap a maple tree, one of the first things you’ll need to know is how to identify different kinds of maple trees. Only certain ones are well-suited for tapping. This blog covers three common maples you might find in your yard or woods and explain tricks you can use to differentiate these seemingly-similar trees.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

SEASONAL INTERNSHIPS

The Watershed Agricultural Council (WAC) seeks 6 Seasonal/Temporary employees to perform various duties as part of the Watershed Agricultural Program (WAP) serving farms within the NYC Watershed. Five (5) of the positions will be Nutrient Management soil samplers who will perform the duties of soil sampling and data collection. One (1) position will be a WAP Technical Intern who will perform the duties of Best Management Practice (BMP) installation, repairs and inspections. Other duties will entail Whole Farm Plan monitoring, soil sampling and BMP data collection. These are 10-week, 40 hours a week summer positions that pay $16.80 per hour. Must have dependable vehicle, insurance and a valid N.Y.S. driver’s license. Will be reimbursed for mileage incurred on the job. Deadline March 15, 2024. EOE
