Dear KOG Friends,
After four months living out of our suitcases, we have finally come to rest in our new home at Harbour Pointe Senior Living in Mukilteo, WA.We were in a temporary apartment our first month here, so could not really unpack until one week ago. We greatly miss fellowship with you at KOG, where we have been spiritually nurtured since 2005. Our special thanks to Pastor Connie and all you dear friends who blessed us on our way and who have been praying for us and with whom we have shared the Bread of Life together. Thank you for laying your hands upon us as we entrust our lives again and always into the hands of the Lord our Keeper and Guardian (Ps 121), who watches over our going out and our coming in. Thank you for the gift in our honor of a herd of goats that will enhance the livelihood of sisters and brothers in Africa and wherever they find their new home.
Already we've been visited here by Tom and Teresa Schmalz We dare to hope that was a foretaste of many visits to come from our KOG Family. We hope to see some of you via zoom for book studies in the weeks ahead. You are in our daily morning prayers!

FEBRUARY COUNCIL CONNECTIONS
The 2022 King of Glory Annual Meeting is history; it is “His-Story”! It was a sacred time on Sunday, January 30 as this community of faith gathered in the sanctuary and in homes (as a “hybrid” congregation) to review, affirm, and approve the business of this congregation.
Approved:
-
Congregational meetings for 2021—the Annual Meeting, January 24, 2021, and a special congregation meeting, August 29, 2021, were approved without changes.
- Carolyn Jean Smith, Treasurer, presented the year-end financial status as of December 31, 2021. The 2021 financial report, included in the 2021 Annual Report, was accepted and approved by a unanimous vote.
- The 2022 budget proposal, prepared by the Finance Committee, and approved by the Council, was presented for congregation approval by Dan Price. The 2022 Budget was approved by a unanimous vote with no proposed changes or alteration of the budget.
- Election of offices, as required by the Constitution, was the final order of business. Mark Drew, reporting for the Nominating Committee presented a slate of candidates for two 3-year Council positions; a 1-year Youth Council representative; and two 3-year terms on the Columbarium Memorial Board. Elected by acclamation of the voting members: Katie Vaage and Dwayne Gjorass, Council representatives; Aurelie Beyam, youth representative; Gary Derr and Lyman Larson, Columbarium Memorial Board. Mark explained that the Mission Endowment Committee representatives will continue their terms for an additional year, as determined by the Council. No Synod Assembly delegates were elected because there will not be an official Synod Assembly. Three regional synod gatherings will be held later in the spring with no official business requiring congregational delegates.
There was no old/continuing or new business brought to the congregation for review or approval.
Following the “official” congregational business, Mary Rickerd, Council President, reviewed the blessings and the challenges of 2021. On behalf of the Council, she thanked this community of faith for adhering to the strict pandemic protocols that provided a safe place for all. She also offered a challenge: how will this congregation embrace the new technology that has been long dreamed about and is in the process of being installed. Members were encouraged to volunteer to be part of a Hybrid Task Force to dream and plan new ways of ministry with the new equipment.
An honorarium gift and a standing ovation of gratitude for the digital ministry of Wes and Dawn Lewis who have produced the on-line worship service since March 2020. King of Glory has been able to worship together when being together was only on-line; now being together is virtual and in-person.
A special thank you to all who made this Annual Meeting a hybrid event: Matt Lee, Council member who brought in the equipment to set up and make the Zoom link work in the sanctuary; Steve Eulberg who was the Zoom host on-line and made the Zoom link work for those who attended virtually; Council members who monitored the Zoom link on-line; Council members who hosted the meeting in-person in the Sanctuary.
King of Glory: we are a hybrid congregation!
THANK YOU
To these faithful who served on the Council:
Harold Nesbett. Harold has been the liaison to the Property Committee as well as a member of the Property Committee. Harold could usually be found on Friday or Saturday mowing the lawn and assisting with other property needs.
Katie Vaage. Katie has been the liaison to the Youth-Family Ministry/Christian Education Committee. Katie has also organized Youth activities for our Youth and has been instrumental in encouraging young people to attending the ELCA Youth Gathering. We are happy that Katie, who had filled an unexpired term, was willing to continue her leadership skills in her election to a full three-year term.
Jasmine Mendez-Jorgensen. Jasmine has been the youth representative and was a liaison to the Youth-Family Ministry. Jasmine was able to juggle her many school activities and studies, council activities and with a smile.
To these faithful who served on the Columbarium Memorial Board:
Lisa Kraft. Lisa has served two three-year terms and was not eligible to be re-elected. Lisa was the financial secretary of the Columbarium, and assisted with inurnments and the normal maintenance of the Columbarium.
Nancy Severson served a three-year term. Nancy has assumed co-responsibilities for the Altar Guild and declined re-nomination. Nancy also assisted with inurnments and the routine maintenance of the Columbarium.

Free Meal News
Last month’s free meal fed about 40 diners including some of the tax preparers. We used up the ham from December and one of the 7 turkeys we were given from the Meridian Food Bank. The diners enjoyed homemade pea soup, homemade turkey dumpling soup, ham salad sandwiches, and roasted turkey sandwiches. The compliments were numerous. Due to Crisis Standards of Care being re-implemented, the meal was take-out. The next free meal will be Saturday, February 26th. We will be using another of the turkeys and Anise Dahlquist will be making her famous turkey tetrazzini. If you would like to help cook, please arrive around 10 AM or if you are helping to serve, arrive at 11:30 AM. We will be serving the meals take-out until the Crisis Standards of Care are lifted.

2022 ELCA Youth Gathering Canceled
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has announced that the 2022 ELCA Youth Gathering has been canceled due to the ongoing pandemic, the recent COVID-19 surge and public health considerations. The Gathering pre-events — the Multicultural Youth Leadership Event (MYLE) and the tAble, the ELCA gathering for youth with disabilities — have also been canceled.
An announcement today from the ELCA Youth Gathering states: "We know there are thousands of young people who will not get to experience the Gathering, and our hearts break for them. This was not an easy decision, and we ask for your prayers and your grace. We understand the impact this decision will have on our youth, volunteers and planning teams, and we hope to return to Minneapolis for a future Gathering."
The 2024 Gathering will take place July 16-20, 2024, with the Multicultural Youth Leadership Event (MYLE) and the tAble taking place July 13-16, 2024.
The location will be announced this summer.

Samson, Isabelle, and Their Children’s Faith Journey
The Social Justice Committee’s project for 2021 has been completed. A professional videographer, Stephanie Cullen, recorded and edited Samson Madjitoloum, Isabelle Datoloum, and their children’s faith journey. The DVD will be presented to the congregation the three first Sundays in February, in between the services.
This will be an opportunity for you to know Samson and his family in a better and deeper way. The parents, Samson and Isabelle, were born in Central Africa Republic. They moved to Cameroun when the war made it impossible for them to stay in their native country. A few years later, they were given a chance to move to America, and landed in Boise, Idaho. They chose King of Glory as their church.
They will speak of their struggles and their joys, as well as the importance of their faith and King of Glory in their life.
February 13: The family’s Story
February 20: Isabelle’s Story
There will be time at the end of each session to ask questions and make comments.
We are also inviting the youth to attend the presentation and participate in the conversation.
For the members who are not attending the church in person, there will be 2 DVDs available for check up at the church library.

Good Gifts Update
What a great gift for Tom and Sharyn Christensen. We collected enough money to purchase a whole herd of goats plus three individual goats. Thank you to all who donated to this gift. Tom and Sharyn have arrived at their new destination through some ugly weather issues. We are grateful to God for keeping them safe.
Hurray!!! We received enough funds to purchase a whole fish farm. This will help a community feed themselves for a lifetime. Keeping on the feeding theme, in January and February, we will be collecting funds for food for orphans and vulnerable children. Nutrition for a child for one month costs $30 and nutrition for a child for one year costs $300. It would be great if we could buy food for a year.
Thank you to all who donate to this Social Ministry cause!

Owls Meeting 2/15/22
The Owls will be having their next lunch on Tuesday, February 15th at 11:30 AM at Louie’s Pizza and Italian Restaurant at 2500 E. Fairview Ave, Meridian. This time, we called and verified that they will be open that day. We are very sorry for the “scavenger” hunt we had last month. For those who wonder what this means, the Owls were having lunch at Idaho Pizza at Fairview and Cole, However, when we got there, it was closed due to staffing shortages. So Anise Dahlquist stayed there to direct the stragglers and the rest of us headed to Chuck a Rama. However, when we got there, it was closed on Tuesdays due to the same reason. At this point, some just went home but 11 of us headed to the Black Bear where we finally got lunch. This staffing shortage is really causing issues so we will call in advance from now on to make sure the restaurant is open.
Hope to see you there!
