Lower Mortgage Rates Drive Home Sales to Nearly 3-Year High

Hopeful home buyers are seeing a boost as falling mortgage rates help offset high prices. Existing-home sales jumped 5.1% in December—the strongest pace in nearly three years—while affordability improves and the pace of home price growth slows.

December Market Statistics

Home sales across South Central Wisconsin showed steady year-end strength in December, with closed sales finishing above last year despite ongoing affordability challenges. Inventory remained tight, keeping supply well below a balanced market and supporting price stability as 2025 came to a close.

Limited inventory and steady buyer demand continued to sustain both monthly and year-to-date price growth, reinforcing the market’s resilience heading into the new year.
