The Impact of Quiet Miracles

By Christian Decker

When I was a child, many of my favorite scripture stories involved dramatic miracles like those that Moses performed, stories that would excite my imagination and fill me with wonder. I saw myself as inheriting the miracles of Adam, Moses, Elijah, Peter, John, Joseph, Wilford, and all the other Saints throughout time.

And then I got a little older.

I began to find myself drowning in the endless deluge of destruction and mires of misery that ...

Faith and Imperfection: Wilford Woodruff’s Witness

By Ed Evans

Have you ever had an experience in which your life changed course, permanently and positively? In these pivotal moments when the threads of your life come together and strengthen you, when you are given power beyond your own to move forward, you can become more confident and trusting in your own faith. Reading Jennifer Mackley’s book Wilford Woodruff’s Witness: The Development of Temple Doctrine was one of these moments for me.

While engulfed in the pages, I began to see our pioneer heritage unfold in my mind, bringing a feeling of closeness to those pioneer children, youth, women, and men. We too are a part of ...

Volunteer Spotlight:

Anna Buis

By Lyndie Jackson

“Volunteers at the Wilford Woodruff Papers Foundation are the bread and butter of the effort to bring Wilford's work to light,” said Anna Buis.

Anna, a volunteer researching Wilford Woodruff's ancestors who lived during the colonial era, joined the Project to maintain the research skills she learned at BYU–Idaho and to be part of a meaningful project connected to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She found the opportunity to volunteer through social media and didn’t hesitate to offer her help.

“I love the team of people I get to collaborate with,” Anna said. “They are all passionate about genealogical research and help me sharpen my research skills on a regular basis. I also enjoy the challenges that come with ...

Insight from the Journals Team

In a journal of Wilford Woodruff’s dated October 11, 1883, he recorded a unique and deeply spiritual experience that was shared by Zebedee Coltrin in a meeting with Church leadership. Zebedee was an Apostle and Patriarch who was with Joseph Smith in the early days of the School of the Prophets in Kirtland, Ohio. Wilford recounted Zebedee’s experience:

“A personage passed through the room dressed in usual clothing. Joseph said that was the Savior. Soon another personage passed through the house clothed in fire. His features and feet were visible but his body was wrapped in flames. Joseph said that was God the Father. He said . . . they saw a man sitting upon a throne whose hair was white as wool and a woman sitting beside of him ...
