Request for Proposals - True Cost of Wildfire

The Council of Western State Foresters (CWSF) is seeking proposals from qualified contractors to complete the second iteration of the Western Forestry Leadership Coalition’s (WFLC) True Cost of Wildfire report that will include a full accounting of costs associated with wildfire in the West.

The end result of this project will be a report that brings new understanding to the concept of valuation as it applies to wildfire. 
Member and Partner Updates

Dr. Cynthia West accepted the position of Director of Northern Research Station and Forest Products Laboratory effective February 16. She replaces Lon Yeary, who has served as Acting Station Director.
Policy Update
President Biden’s first 100 days are underway and an Executive Order (EO) has been issued establishing a government-wide approach to addressing climate change. State Foresters have expressed their forestry priorities through the National Association of State Foresters (NASF) Forest-based Solutions for America, outlining recommendations to the new Administration. CWSF, as part of the NASF policy team, submitted public comments on the Good Neighbor Authority (GNA) Chapter and the proposed revisions to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) section 7 regarding the “Cottonwood” consultation regulations.

NASF Forest Action Plan Video Series

NASF released a four-part video series highlighting the value of state Forest Action Plans.

The video series introduces state forestry agencies and illustrates the many benefits of their work with landowners, partner groups, and forest stakeholders at large. The launch of the video series coincides with the 10-year state Forest Action Plan revisions.
