NAACP of Arizona is promoting legislation to reform the pretrial detention process in Arizona. This presentation will describe the issues with the current process and the recommendations for improvement.

Dr. Cheree L. Meeks serves as President of NAACP Tucson. She has been an active member of NAACP since 2017 and has served as 2^nd Vice President, 1^st Vice President, and chairperson of the Political Action Committee.

Sandy Davenport is a retired masters level social worker, an active member of the Tucson NAACP Criminal Justice Committee, and Chair of its Sub-Committee on Bail Reform.

Request to Speak Training

Civic Engagement Beyond Voting (CEBV) will provide training to GV Dems on the Request to Speak (RTS) system. RTS is an easy and effective way to voice your opinions on proposed Arizona state legislation.

If you do not already have a RTS account, it is advisable to sign up for one before the training session. Use this link to sign up: http://tinyurl.com/rtssignmeup.

If you'd like hands-on practice using the system during the training session, bring your RTS login information and a laptop, tablet or smart phone. This is optional.

Justice for All Petition at Headquarters

PIMA COUNTY JUSTICE FOR ALL is asking our community to support a 2024 ballot initiative that gives Pima County, Arizona residents who are facing detention or deportation access to a public defender.

This is a NEW petition--the petition drive for 2022 did not have enough signatures. Please drop by Headquarters and sign the new petition, even if you signed last year.

Join the Discussion Group each Wednesday at 10 - 11:30 a.m. in Room 203 for open discussion on current events. Beginning in January, the Discussion Group will be held live only.

WE HELP Campaign for February

Children’s Clothing Drive

For our February contribution to the community through our WE HELP program, we are requesting donations of new or very gently used children’s clothing, which will go to migrant children. Think sturdy, everyday clothing, both for cooler and warmer temperatures. I know that as a community of mostly retirees we are not likely to have any kids’ clothes hanging in the back of the closet, so look at this as an opportunity to go on a fun shopping spree, even if it’s only to Goodwill or White Elephant where your dollars will be helping another charity as well. Or think of it as your Valentine's present to children in need. Bring them to the wagon in the office. Huge thanks to all who donated socks in January!!
