Tomorrow is the Day to VOTE!

Tomorrow, February 28 is the Chicago Municipal Election! The election will cover the 43rd Ward Alderman, but also the Chicago Mayoral Election, the Chicago Police Department District Council Member Election and more. See the full list of candidates and referenda here.

Lincoln Central Association was honored to participate in the 43rd Ward Candidate Forum where neighbors learned more about the six candidates for 43rd Ward Alderman. Did you miss the forum? You can view the recording here.

We also helped host two Police District Council Candidate Forums for neighbors to get to know those candidates as well. You can view the February 22nd forum here. In the video, the candidates are (left to right): Robert Johnson, Brad Kessler, Kimberly Lynn Bowman, Karen Kane and Lisa Seigneur. The 6th candidate Amy Cross was not able to participate. Want to learn more about what the Police Council does? Learn more in our great recent article.

If you haven’t voted yet, make a plan to vote! Enter your voter information here to find out your local place to vote.

Please get out there and VOTE!

Be SMART - Secure Gun Storage

Every year in the United States, 350 children aged 17 and under gain access to a firearm and unintentionally shoot themselves or someone else. Nearly 700 more die by suicide with a gun.

Everytown for Gun Safety launched the Be SMART campaign to address these preventable tragedies by promoting responsible gun ownership to reduce child gun deaths. It seeks to normalize the conversation of gun safety and help gun owners understand their responsibility when it comes to securely storing their firearms. The campaign educates and encourages parents and caretakers to “Be SMART” and take these five simple steps to help prevent shootings by children:

  • Secure all guns in your home and vehicles
  • Model responsible behavior around guns
  • Ask about the presence of unsecured guns in other homes
  • Recognize the role of guns in suicide
  • Tell your peers to Be SMART

The death of a child impacts our entire community, scarring the lives of family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and more. Every adult can play a role in keeping children safe from accessing guns. When it comes to kids’ safety, we’re all in this together!
