At the   13th Annual California Childhood Grief and Traumatic Loss Conference our own Lauren Schneider was awarded the 2017 Dr. Michael Durfee Award
for her inspiration and commitment to restoring joy to children and families. Lauren was a panelist for the conference's morning and lunch plenary sessions, and lead an afternoon workshop as well. We are so proud of her and delighted for her to receive this recognition.
From a
Group Member
"OUR HOUSE is a very special place. After my fianc├ę died, I was terrified; I had never felt such pain or isolation and did not know how I would survive. OUR HOUSE knew that about me the moment I walked in and was the only place I felt safe. The women that worked with me are angels, for whom I will always be grateful. OUR HOUSE is a remarkable home for healing, and discovery; it has left a profound mark on my life and in my heart. If you have lost someone you cannot live without, give yourself the gift of OUR HOUSE. You need to feel the compassion of people who will face grief with you; you need a bridge to support and guide you. OUR HOUSE is that bridge.

A Journey of Healing...
The Personal Story Behind TSA Tragedy

On November 1, 2013, a shooting occurred at 9:20 a.m. in Terminal 3 at LAX that took the life of U.S. Government TSA Officer, Gerardo Hernandez.

Gerardo's wife, their 14-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter felt as though their lives had also ended that morning.  Then, a friend introduced them to OUR HOUSE Grief Support Center.

Four months later, both Stephanie and Luis were enrolled in separate grief support groups with youth their own age.  All participants were also grieving the death of a parent, so Stephanie and Luis found immediate comfort in knowing they were not alone. Little by little, they both were able to get their lives back on track and focus on school again.

Today, Ana tells us that her children are thriving. "Luis will earn his high school diploma this June and has already been accepted to 7 great universities, all with scholarships for academic achievement!"

"Stephanie is 15-years old now, has just entered into high school and will celebrate her quincea├▒era in July.  My kids are great and I want to give them full credit for their successes, but I will tell you that I don't know where we would be without the OUR HOUSE support and love."

Ana, Luis and Stephanie will all be participating in the 2017 OUR HOUSE Run for Hope to honor the memory of their beloved husband and dad, Gerardo Hernandez.
